Tamsulosin

I’ve been on Tamsulosin since diagnosis. Now have unconnected (I think) issues with fluid build up in my lungs and consequential breathing issues. Now on frusemide but wondering if stopping Tamsulosin is possible. I don’t want to be taking anything more than I need.

Tamsulosin is a med that makes urination easier. Prostate cancer will usually cause an enlarged prostate making urination more difficult and more frequent. As far as I know, there should be no correlation between that drug and fluid in your lungs. I have been taking tamsulosin going on 19 years.

I stopped and started Tamsulosin a couple of times. I was working in a difficult to get to a bathroom location and I found I had less chance of an accident when not on it. Tamsulosin relaxes the muscle around the bladder and prostate gland so you can pee more easily. Later during radiation treatments I had issues with my stream starting and stopping but I decided not to stay on it since that doesn't really bother me.

I have similar feelings. I’ve had leakage at times while on Tamsulosin or Terazosin. Recently stopped it, Doc is fine with it. Seems it takes longer to get a stream (yes weak) going but still get up every 3+ hours whether on it or off. Trying to be off all meds and my eye Dr. told me Flomax type meds do indicate glaucoma down the road. I have age related MacDegen so not looking for more issues. I fully realize there’s a balance we all look for. I’m 70, finished 44 rounds of IMRT Jan 2023, follow ups have been good! Sometimes midday I get a great stream ( comparatively) we all love that feeling but I guess I don’t understand why it’s so inconsistent. Sometimes I’ll stand there several minutes to get it going. Still great to be alive, thanks to all who engage here, it helps us all.

For what it's worth, for whoever: I've gotten on and off Tamsulosin a few times, and whenever I get on it I have the interesting side effect of small round stools that come frequently during the day. Not sure if the benefit is worth it for me but that phenomenon can be ameliorated with taking a psyllium fiber drink.

I take as needed and that isn’t often. I deal with UTI and that is corrected with antibiotics. Pee slows if UTI is present. Per test confirms.

Just my 2 cents

I am fairly certain that your doctors have checked but I thought I would mention that often times fluid builds up in the lungs when the heart is having trouble pumping enough blood to move the fluid out. If you haven't already make sure you have a cardiac checkup to ensure there is nothing going on with your heart here.
