A few people messaged me regarding updates about my dad’s participation in Duke CHAMP trial for small cell/NEPC. He was admitted into trial Dec ‘23 and received 3 immunotherapy infusions until he had a very severe allergic reaction causing intense itching and grade 4 red rash all over his body. He admitted to hospital at Duke and although adverse skin reactions are common with immunotherapy, they’re still “new” and treatment protocol isn't widely studied, so it took 5 million doctors and NPs and PAs to confirm what was happening. Dr. Armstrong advised him he couldn’t continue immunotherapy portion but could continue chemo portion (Cabaxitazel & Carboplatin). He had a scan right after that third immunotherapy infusion and being released from hospital in February and there was little change to size of liver tumors but doc said with immunotherapy, the tumors (or parts of them) in the scan may actually be “dead” cells so scan can be misleading. In addition, immunotherapy continues to work after administered so he will have a scan next week on April 18 to confirm 🤞🏼🤞🏼
