Robotic wedge lung resection

During my pet scan a lung shadow was reported. Biopsy failed to get tissue but Drs. do not think it is from the stage 2/3 prostate cancer. They recommend a wedge resection via a daVinci mechanism to remove it.

I'd like to hear from someone who has had that surgery but since it may be tangential to this forum, could someone recommend the right forum for this?

My friend had a biopsy from an interventional radiologist that confirmed it was a primary lung cancer. It was treated with SBRT 5 years ago. He had an annual CT as follow-up.

My late dad had advanced PC. A nodule was seen on x-ray--about 1 1/2 cm. They WERE able to sample it on needle biopsy. NB: this WAS maybe 15 -20 years ago; a lot has changed. He also had a bunch of cancerous mediastinal nodes. It took 3-4 months to determine that the lung lesion was lung ca and the nodes PC. He had a lobectomy and did not have a recurrence of the lung ca for the rest of his life.

I'm no expert here, but I'm inclined to think a lung resection is pretty aggressive in a case where the biopsy was equivocal. This is NOT a trivial point. The docs at MSKCC assumed that my dad's cancerous nodes were lung cancer, and he was being prepared for chemo when an astute pathologist told me those mediastinal nodes were PC and NOT lung cancer. What that meant was that my dad became a surgical patient rather than a chemo patient. Did they explain why they didn't think a repeat biopsy was warranted?

I think because the lung biopsy was a failure. It was a ct-directed biopsy but they hit a vein and I started drowning in blood. I was told they tried again later in the day when I was out of it but there was too much blood and couldn't do it. I'm not inclined to try it again, since its the 2nd biopsy that landed me in ICU. I see my radiologist tomorrow to see what he thinks.

Yikes--and I thought prostate biopsies were problematic! I hope they figure this out for you.
