Hello All , I just hit the 2 yr. mark of Eligard , Zytiga and pred. Im Stage 4 N1 , Had SBRT to prostate 2015 , then 7 yrs later PSMA-Pet saw 1 tumor in my pelvic lymph node Had SBRT on that . I have a heart doctor for heart murmur .
The question is according to a study , per Tall Allen , Stampede Study , I could drop the Zytiga , prednisone but stay with ADT , Eligard for 1 more year . Im not shure what I want to do . All Labs are good . Im asking is there a alternative drug to switch to to avoid Zytiga and prednisone to make it easier on the Heart issues ? Thanks SemperFi , JJ

I left Zytiga behind after 5 yrs on last June. Helped my wild Cardiac irregularities. I still take 5 mg prednisone couple times weekly for lingering joint issues. Seems to help as I no longer have aching Achilles which plagued me throughout. I’m active so I feel the lingering effects on low sterols were more pronounced….btw, no change in PSA…still undetectable
Not sure why you would want to continue with Abi or an alternative for a third year. TA was correct, in that the STAMPEDE study recommended 2 years of Abi and 3 years of ADT. I arrived at that point a year ago, stopped the Abi (after 2 years), and continued with the ADT until just recently (3 years).
At my last appointment in December, my PSA was undetectable and my testosterone was below castration level. But my final Lupron shot was just beginning to wear off and would have been affecting the results. The blood tests in the coming year will tell me much more about how I am really doing without the drugs. However, like you, I had thought maybe more Abiraterone would be better, so at the 2-year mark, I finished the supply I had on hand, which took me several months beyond the 2 years. When I tried to wean off the prednisone, my adrenal glands failed to produce cortisol, which has left me with a secondary adrenal insufficiency that may/may not be permanent. These are strong drugs, don't take them any longer than necessary, and make sure you come off the prednisone slowly when you stop.
106. I should have also mentioned that as a result of my present adrenal insufficiency, I am having to take another corticosteroid (hydrocortisone) twice daily.
interesting..I’ve had a hell of a time figuring out sterol composure. I think it boils down to having it evaluated in blood tests which I’ve not had done. My MO has never checked in on me as he’s dealing with thousands of demanding PC cases of which I’m not one anymore. I finally went cold Turkey on prednisone as I ‘feel’ it’s doing much more harm than good? We’re all so unique physiologically and finding our sweet spots is both challenge and reward when denied or brushed with grace. It’s as frustrating as it is rewarding feeling our way back to normalcy. I’m craving a few more good than bad days in the coming weeks months dare say years. Good luck on your journeys..anything I putatively deduce ill keep you all posted.
Since I did a very slow prednisone taper and yet have never managed to recover my adrenal function, I am amazed by the men like you who went cold turkey and came out fine on the other end. Amazed, and envious. Good luck to you, as well. Gary
