For people in both New York (NYU) and Colorado (CU Anschutz).
Dont forget about the mental health side of fighting this dragon, whether traditional mental health services or something novel like this clinical trial. I’ve done traditional mental health (with anxiety meds) for a couple years now to help me deal with my cancer. That coupled with 7 years of Lupron and all the other chemo and immunotherapy drugs and side effects - I feel have cumulatively affected my mental health. I hoping to ‘level up’ my awareness and engagement, connect with the Big Why.
I’m one of the 200 data points, my ‘dosing day’ is next week. I’m hoping for a good ‘coin flip’ and no placebo! But regardless it builds science and there is extensive ‘included’ therapy sessions.
pharmaceutical grade psilocybin and essentially guided therapy through trails like this may be one of the very few perks of advanced cancer. Remember to help build the science boys!

I have been using Psilocybin for past 6 months at different doses. I find that it eliminated cancer pain in pelvis before radiation. I also find that I am at peace with things for a few days after. I have seen with some mental health clinics they add talk therapy for those with serious mental concerns. Over all I am happy with results
Best wishes and hope you get the active drug. It can be permanently tranformative in a very positive way. (I did it in Canada some time back.) Also available now in Oregon outside of clinical trial. Paul
I've done Ketamine therapy, which can give similar results. My anxiety is much lower and my existential fear is largely gone. It's been about 5 1/2 weeks and so far the effects have been durable.
Good luck with it. Have done psilocybin myself and it was one of the most transformative experiences of my life.
I am always curious with these psilocybin clinical trials how the hell they do a niacin placebo. At a 25 mg high dose of psilocybin (a serious trip), there is absolutely zero chance you won't know you got the real thing.
Letting everyone do the open-label side of things is great and will be worth it even if you get the placebo in the randomised part.
Yeah - I have to promise not to just leave if I get the niacin. There is an ‘open label’ phase of the study for those that stick with the double blind phase. The open label phase is just the straight up drug, with the associated guided therapy. So anyone in the study, if you stick with it long enough, can get the drug/experience
I am a full supporter of the growing recognition of the value of psilocybin.I use it to help with depression and insight.
But I'm puzzled by your trial's dose. Is it really just 25 mg?
I measure my own doses in grams. And if I'm not mistaken Johns Hopkins uses a 5 g dose.
It may be that your trial is probing the effects of microdosing. 25 mg would fit in that arena.
Microdosing is intended to be sub-perceptual. It doesn't mean that you wouldn't feel its effects over a period of time, but you likely won't feel anything immediately after you have your 25 mg dose. And that would explain why the placebo would still function correctly in this study.
Don't get me wrong, I'm all for it and I hope you get perceptible results. But if it turns out you want a more immediate and noticable sense of effect, you may want to pursue higher doses.
I consider myself a relative newbie to psilocybin, and one of my favorite sources of information is the
so the info above clarifies that average psilocybin is on average approximately 1% of the mushroom. So you would need to eat 2.5 grams (2500mg) of mushroom to get a 25mg dose of psilocybin
Mg is considered a ‘high dose’ this is pure pharmaceutical psilocybin, not mushrooms of which the psilocybin is a small percentage of the weight. Regardless- it was not ‘sub perceptible’, it was amazing
I am very confident I did not receive the placebo. It was an amazing experience and I was brought to tears with gratitude. I felt a brightness and lightness that I have not felt in a long time. I need sometime to process this experience - will report back
I didn’t quite get there on this day, but I was left with an intense awareness of the beauty and magic of life. In that moment, with that focused awareness, that was enough for me -very grateful
