I spent the last two days having a great time learning to fly fish and meet with a wide variety of men with and surviving cancer. The majority of the men had prostate cancer including advanced PC.

Reel Recovery is a non profit organization whose mission is to improve the lives of men with cancer using the healing power of fly fishing. Sounds a bit strange but having just attended their retreat in California it makes a lot more sense to me now.

This is from the mission statement on their web site reelrecovery.org

The mission of Reel Recovery is to help men in the cancer recovery process by introducing them to the healing powers of the sport of fly-fishing, while providing a safe, supportive environment to explore their personal experiences of cancer with others who share their stories.

I encourage all men with cancer to seek out their program. I had a wonderful time and have only praise for all aspects of the retreat. I give them a 12 out of 10.

Awesome Brother, that sounds wonderful to just chill with other guys.

That's Big Time QoLing esp with other men with F'in cancer. Trading stories, but also reveling in y'all still being here to be able to fly fish together.

Great to hear! As a Fly Fishing Instructor with LL Bean for 5 years I also worked with Casting For Recovery - same type of program but for women dealing with Breast Cancer. Wished to work for Reel Recovery, but worked with Veterans instead (I am one, and only so much time …) while dealing with advanced PCa myself. Can’t do it anymore at this time, (I still tie flys for them) but will look to do more after my clinical trial is over, as I can.

The calming and meditative benefits of fishing in general, and Fly Fishing specifically can not be overstated, especially when conducted with the caneraderie of other survivors of YOUR type of cancer!

I am too impacted/tied-up at the moment to volunteer as I did, but spread the word when appropriate.

Glad you got to experience it!

Be well,

Pax
