Nature Therapy on the river with other warriors?

My husband is going on a FREE fly fishing retreat this June with other men with cancer called Reel Recovery. This amazing non-profit has about 30 multi-day retreats around the country this year. Maybe you would benefit from the comradery and kinship which is built on the river with other men who "get it" and whose story could be inspirational? I can't wait for him to go in June, hang out in nature, and bond with other men. He's an introvert and not much of a "sharer", but hopefully will come away inspired and feeling stronger than ever.

Didn't seem like "my sort of thing" either but I did it and loved it. Every aspect was well done. It was great to meet with other men in all stages of their dealing with life with cancer. Even if it does not sound like your sort of "thing" maybe it will be.

Ditto to what spencoid2 said. I was on one of their retreats this past September in North Carolina and it was incredible. The fishing was great, even triggered a bug to get into fly fishing in Georgia. But the real superpower of the weekend was being and sharing with other men in an incredibly supportive environment. Nothing is forced in terms of participating in the group sessions, your comfort level will guide you. However, it is such a positive environment, I think anyone who participates will benefit greatly.

I too had a great experience with Reel Recovery. I was given plenty of introvert time to be on my own too.

As a Fly Fishing Instructor who also has stage 4 metastatic PCA, I totally understand the benefits! I have worked with Reel Recovery, Casting For Recovery (same idea, but for women with or recovering from Breast Cancer), and similar events for Veterans and disabled children, I have seen the miracles that water and time in nature can confer.

Reel Recovery is A fantastic program with dedicated volunteers; Plenty of one on one time with directed group discussions. By all means, approach this program with and open mind and you will find it to be a memorable and positive experience. Check out Photo with permission.
