Kidney Stones

I’m 19 months into ADT (Lupron) following open RP and 38 rounds of radiation last summer. All treatments or for Gleason 9 (5/4) PC that had spread outside the prostate. A few weeks ago I started getting loose bowels, incontinence and blood in my urine. My urologist thought I had radiation cause cancer and was relieved when a Cat scan showed I was passing a kidney stone. However, he’s concerned that all the surgery and radiation damage may make it difficult to pass the stone. I had a second CT Friday and see him again today. He said “we may have to go in and take it out”.

Has anyone else has had kidney stones following PC treatments?

I had Gleason 4+5 with PSA 54 localized when I began treatment. Did 18 months Lupron with 50mg Casodex. 45 sessions of EBRT. Began to June 2020. Ended December 2021. July 2022 Flouroscopy for right kidney stone. September 1, 2022 Flouroscopy for kidney stones, one in right kidney and one in left kidney. Doc blamed them on ADT. Said calcium leaving bone settled in kidneys. Don’t know for sure but sounded reasonable. So far no more kidney stones. I’m 69.

Mr. Spouse21 has had two kidney stones while under treatment with Lupron and Xgeva. Never had a stone before that. He does do huge bike rides in the heat but that was true before treatment. Tries to stay hydrated, but he still got a second stone several months after the first one earlier this year.

Interesting. DH had lithotripsy for a kidney stone last spring. but no one connected it to ADT. (He was 74 at the time, on Lupron for 8 years and had never had one before)

I'm 71 yo and very active, biking, hiking, skiing, etc. and stay very hydrated. I'd never had kidney stones before, so there were a surprise. If I'm able to pass them, my doctor wants me to capture the stones so they can see what they are made up of.

Against greater odds, my husband passed a 8.7 mm kidney stone after the first of the year. He was scheduled for intervention but passed it the night before. He had a simple prostatectomy, a salvage prostatectomy, and 39 salvage RT between 2014 and 2019. When diagnosed with the first stone, a CT showed a second smaller one. He started seeing blood in his urine about 2 months ago. A CT and x-rays didn't find the second one but it has to be there somewhere. A cystoscopy showed no radiation damage. He doesn't feel pain like a "normal" person, but did have overnight pain 5 days ago that was similar to the stone-related pain earlier this year. The blood is on and off now. The stone has to be on the move. Maybe you'll be lucky and yours will move on through. I hope.

I have had one 11mm kidney stone from my left kidney in my second year of ADT. It sent me to the hospital so often it was not funny. It was taken out while I was under. By laser I think.

Sadly, I still have a 3mm kid stone in my right kidney.

I hope that one won't grow anymore since I am now done with ADT and that it either melts away or just passes without medical assistance.

OUCH, OUCH AND MORE OUCH......... I've had about 3 on my right side and maybe 4 on my left.....My whole family are/were stone growers...... I passed every one by myself (WATER, WATER AND MORE WATER) by drinking water which I do not like to drink.... Jumping up and down sometimes dislodges the stone from your renal canal....(Horse riding best, if you can find one...... wife riding does not count)..........strain your pee (using kitchen strainer) every time in the event you pass a stone (to catch it) so the doctor can use it as a marble (actually analyze for what may be causing them). Good fucking Luck,......you'll need it.....PAIN, PAIN AND MORE PAIN....

Good Luck, Good Health and Good Humor.
