PSA increasing during radiation treatment

Hi all,

Please refresh my memory. Can PSA increase during radiation treatment due to cancer cells dying off? Last month 0.14 and today 0.26. On day #4 of radiation treatment. Thanks!

Wait for someone more knowledgeable to come along but my understanding is that if under hormone treatment it should be steadily decreasing regardless. Although for my dad once he completed radiation, they stopped testing PSA for 6 months since the radiation continues to work in the body for months after and testing only 2 months after completing radiation would not give any true information.

Also I thought PSA readings can vary test to test from a number of factors. Your reading increment seems so small. My father was a higher PSA than you deeper into radiation.. fast forward 6 months post radiation and he has now dropped to under 0.01.

Not sure if this helps at all just offering whatever I can

YES, please wait 3 months for first PSA.. I know this is my 100th time saying this but any experienced Radiologist knows this. Dead and dying PCa cells give off a ton of PSA. Relax and wait. Meditate on good positive thoughts.

Thank you, my dad has monthly PSA labs scheduled way out, so he is just continuing to get them during his radiation. Thanks!

Only applies to "prostate" cancer cells.

Not a single lymph node.

I have PSA test every month, and never went above <0.1 during and after radiation.

He also should have ALL lymph nodes radiated, not whack a mole.

Yes, they are radiating all of them, and giving an extra "boost" dose to the one that showed up on the scan.

OK, your past posts dont mention whole pelvic., just individual.

Did he have cancer in his lymph nodes? My husband got a second radiologist opinion who wanted to radiate lymph nodes even though PSMA didn’t show any cancer there.

Yes. Over the course of 20+ years he has had RP, radiation, Lupron, and now radiation to lymph nodes.

Yes, of course. Wait 3 months for the PSA.
