Coming off Naproxen safely?

Hi

After 3 doses of Radium 223, my pain and general core strength seems to be improving after a rocky start. I'm also taking low dose Dexamethasone.

I'd like to come off Naproxen gently and just take Paracetamol. I'm taking 2 x500 mg a day after meals.

I'd be grateful for any experience or advice to avoid the risk of clots or a stroke ?

Thanks

far as I know, weaning off Naproxen is commonly done by increasing time between does ,rather than using ever smaller doses. It’s supposedly less trouble than getting off things like prednisone , Xanax and heavy opiates. There are lots of potential issues coming off long term naproxen tho …. as with all of these, it’s always best to do it under close supervision of your medical team . Your pcp can check on it to help you be safe and successful. Good luck brother, hope you shed that naproxen quickly and smoothly.

I’ve taken your dose level off and on for years. I’ve been in a number of injuries. When I didn’t need it, I would half my dose for five days, and then half again for another fives days. A doctor thought that was an appropriate course of action. After my prostate was removed two doctors told me to never take an NSAID again; ironically, I developed blood clots nine months after I stopped. Now I’m on blood thinners. Fortunately no clots ever got to my lungs or heart and I’m not having any issues with Xarelto. Knock on wood!

I don’t take NSAIDS , can’t. I was prescribed Naproxen and in 30 days it drove my liver bloodwork nearly off the chart. My body reacts very negatively to those. My wife and a buddy either currently or have taken them tho. My wife was less than impressed with them but they didn’t seem to hurt her. She took them for months too. She did the “ space out the dose “ method to be careful with the side effects.

Lots of people love prescription nSAIDs tho ….they work great for a lot of people. I wish I as one of them, opiates work very well for me, but they affect a persons state of mind with long term use, mine anyway. Depressing , dower effect in me I have to manage. tolerance can be an issue for me too.

I don’t think Naproxen has withdrawal issues. Per Mayo Clinic website it has a half-life of 12-17 hours. You should be fine.
