Radium 223

On the day (last Monday ) before I was scheduled to be irradiated, I read about the side effects of the EBRT and Radium 223. One of the side effects that made me cancel the appointment is “blood cancer”. I don’t think I will want Radium 223 either. They have scared me.

Hubby has been through XTANDI, Chemo, targeted radiation, RADIUM 223. Been on Eligard for 7 years. Oncologist would like him to go in a clinical trial at Princess Margaret hospital in Toronto, Ontario, before her last option of Chemotherapy again. Has anyone had good results from trials?

"As more trials with radium-223 phase III trials are maturing, we need to optimize the best use for radium-223 versus lutetium, which is also a standard of care, and hopefully soon, other radiopharmaceuticals for prostate cancer patients."

My Onco has indicated now that Radium 223 would be a better treatment option now as it is better for bone metastases than Cabazitaxel. Any thoughts anybody please?

Hi All, my husband had to abandon radium 223 when it was discovered that he had several lung nodules (around 8mm).

Radium 223 out due to lymph involvement. I’m feeling better than I have for some time so balancing feeling grim with chemo for no guaranteed benefit or accept that’s it and concentrate on QOL.

can anyone with experience taking Radium 223 tell me the experience they went thru. I am staring on the 8th and want to know if there were side effects and if you managed to do all 6 doses. Cheers

We thought the PSA count wasn’t of much relevance when someone is on radium 223 as the Pca on the bones releases PSA when it’s being attacked by the radium - is this incorrect and should we be worried? Thanks All

Is Radium 223 used when there is lymph node involvement along with skeletal mets, but no visceral mets? Thanks in advance.

What can we expect, as I have read that Radium 223, does not take PSA down.If this treatment 'kills the Cancer cells' then I don't understand why PSA dosn't fall ? Could be offered more chemo, after Radium. So is Radium 223 worth having ?

I believe that Radium 223 precipitated his death. I have written before here on his experiences. It took everything from him and left him bed bound and unable to do anything. The same happened to a friend he made while doing the same treatment. We were together for 47 years.

I have been CRPC since 2022 and have tried abiraterone and Radium 223 (Xofigo). I just completed 7 rounds of docetaxel again and PSA went from 105 to 3.1 after 4 rounds then started doubling. Now I will be switching to cabazitaxel for another 6 to 10 rounds. Has anyone switched and had any luck?

Radium 223 or Lutetium 177 are recommended and seem great options. I’m waiting on treatment cost quotes but early cost estimates look unaffordable. I’m not sure what other options I have but until I get further advice I'm continuing with cabazitaxel.

So, my SOC choices are cabazataxel or radium 223. Other options are trial, which are a crapshoot or go overseas for Actinium. BTW, diagnosed less than 2 years ago with denovo high volume metastatic, Gleason 4 & 5, PSA 28.2. Any thoughts?

PSA started climbing again and next was Radium 223. Cancer stable for 3 months. PSA started climbing again. He was put on Abiraterone along with Prednisone 4 months ago. PSA is rising each month.

He was doing well until March, still actively farming though fatigued, and was due to start Radium 223 in April. Sadly, he broke his leg on March 12 in a fall, was put in a full-leg cast, and told to not put weight on his leg so he became bedbound.

Has anyone here from Canada had experience with either of the two PSMA treatments. I was all excited about this until I looked into it a bit more and the results seem to be very mixed not to mention the cost of upwards of $27K per treatment (5 or 6 treatments seems to be typical). I have completed 8

He was on Xtandi for 15 months, then Chemo and last treatment was Radium 223. He handled side effects well. Any suggestions on what should be next with the 3 options offered? We are in Kawartha Lakes, north of Toronto, Ontario
