Hi everyone, my first post!

A friend sent me the below earlier. Looks worrying on the face of it. I'm not great with trial data, so would appreciate the views of those more knowledgeable, especially Tall_Allen.

Association is not causation. Probably due to ascertainment bias - clue is white men but not black men - white men are more likely to go to doctors and be be diagnosed. Also, those on ADT see doctors more often and so are more likely to be diagnosed with dementia.

Thanks for replying so quickly!

"The highest risk was witnessed with GnRH antagonists (ie. degarelix), with a 92% increased risk"

A 92% risk compared with what? I'm also slightly troubled that the writer doesn't appear to know the difference between i.e. and e.g., and in any case can't punctuate properly!

Compared to 2.11% risk among men not using ADT.

Wouldn't the study have been on people taking the ADT treatment, so the similarity is drugs, the difference is skin color. if I like in a poor neighborhood, and eat more fried food, I am less of a chance of dementia? In my mind it must be the way the drugs are metabolized.

African-Americans are less likely to visit doctors.

Why are you using multiple question marks? The link to the study is in the original post.

I am on Degarelix mainly as I believe that it will not cause dementia. I read it 5 years ago somewhere. I think lupron is probably more likely that will cause dementia.

I don't really know but that is what I believe from the information from 5 years ago. I am fine if I stay like this. Maybe you could search the internet for information on dementia Degarelix and / or Lupron.
