I took a six week treatment of DCA back in 2008. Afterward, I took no other drugs or treatments for 3 1/2 years before my PSA started to rise. That is as good of a result as any of the FDA approved drugs of today, i.e. Zytiga, Xtandi, etc.

Thanks for sharing this.

Most interesting. There is a phase 2 trial now, on brain cancer. Do you have any idea (remember) whether DCA, if it works, could have worse odds in the case of prostate cancer given the different metabolism of this cancer? Can't find anything on prostate cancer in Dichloroacetate (DCA) and Cancer: An Overview towards Clinical Applications

This is something I found on prostate cancer in dogs. Probably not much help, but the results showed some improvements. It also mentions that it’s worked for breast cancer patients, as we know breast cancer and prostate have a decent amount of similarities

“Further, decreased cell proliferation after DCA exposure was also observed in human prostate carcinoma (36), colorectal (37), colon (11) and lung cancer (38). However, induction of mitochondria dependent apoptosis by DCA, as previously reported by several research groups (14,35,39) could not be observed in this study. “

this is extremely interesting. Where did you go to get this treatment? I wonder why no one is talking more about it.

Magnus1964 profile image
Magnus1964 in reply toMw921000000

The FDA has not approved it as a cancer treatment. As the video said, no drug company is going to spend money researching and testing an unprofitable drug. The price of capitalism.

I used the information on the a website thedcasite.com. You can buy DCA on Amazon.

This drug can cause peripheral neuropathy.

Not otc. I obtained it from a website on the net.

Peripheral neuropathy. I may try it again soon.

After how long did neuropathy emerge? After quitting, how long did it take to go away?

I still take gabapentin for neuropathy. I still think it was worth it.

As you indicate, neuropathy could be a concern.

what was your status when you started DCA?

Gleason ? PSA? Previous therapies?

Trying to figure out where in the scheme of things it fit in.

what was your lowest PSA 2008-11?

Have you had a PSMA pet scan?

Do you think BAT would re sensitize you to the off purpose drug?

Magnus1964 profile image
Magnus1964 in reply toScout4answers

I believe my lowest PSA reading was 7.2, it took 3 1/2 years to drop from 12.5.

I don't know if BAT would resenitize DCA.

a drug that "cures" cancer? what a breakthru that would be !!!!

Magnus1964 profile image
Magnus1964 in reply tomaley2711

It's been around as a repurposed drug since 2008. The FDA banned it's use as a cancer drug for a few years. DCA was hard to get. Now it is available at Amazon.

a local man was told he had a few weeks to live with liver cancer, he started taking this , it bought him a few years. Can’t tell you how many but I think it was 4 years. He died last month but he was a believer 🙏

I was given DCA and thymus in Germany where I was treated. My treatments dropped my PSA down very low and it stayed low for years. I will do it again if the cancer acts up again. It doesn't cure, I'm told. It just controls. That's enough for me.

Again, I am sorry but I don't know. It was part of the IV cocktail that I got 5 times a week for 2 weeks.

This is very interesting wonder why there has not been more discussion of DCA on this forum?

How bad were the side effects?

Would you kindly complete your profile with the details of this combo therapy. I find this very interesting and would like complete info on how to get your results. Recurring remission is as good as a cure.

Thanks, never heard of it but I'm studying it now. It might cause neuropathy and it might be carcinogenic. "However, no evidence of carcinogenetic effect is reported in clinical studies, when DCA is administered in cancer therapy." This site gives a good review: ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articl...

It can be pricey on Amazon but one stands out at $30 for 25 grams (not much). One reveiw gave it a 5 rating.

Magnus1964 profile image
Magnus1964 in reply toNecessarilySo

It doesn't take much for a six week treatment.

I get that the drug companies would not want to promote its use when they can supply more expensive drugs , but isn't this was government labs and research are for?

The aim of the phase 1 trial on brain cancer was for safety and tolerability, with a limited focus on efficacy: "Although this phase I trial cannot provide definitive information on efficacy, it is

noteworthy that DCA therapy was associated with clinical and radiographic evidence ofdisease stabilization through the first 4 weeks of DCA administration in all 8 evaluable patients whose average number of prior treatments was 2.8. This is at least non-inferior, if possibly favorable, compared to other advanced cancer phase 1 trials [3, 4, 25, 26] and is

consistent with early data in glioblastoma patients [18] and with experimental evidence for a

metabolic modulation and selective killing of CNS cancers [17, 44]"

Purple-Bike profile image
Purple-Bike in reply toPurple-Bike

From Source 18 above."They then treated five glioblastoma patients with dichloroacetate, three of whom had recurring disease after traditional chemotherapy and two of whom were newly diagnosed. Three of the patients showed evidence of tumor regression on brain imaging scans, and four were clinically stable 15 months after therapy was initiated. Follow-up studies on cells taken from these patients before and after treatment showed that dichloroacetate normalized several mitochondrial functions, promoted apoptosis, and had other biochemical effects consistent with antitumor activity. Dichloroacetate appears to be safe to give to humans at doses that are required for pyruvate dehydrogenase inhibition"

I appreciate the research you have done on this. I look at the data and have a hard time sorting it out. Looks like most of the research is 10 years or older. The most recent being used for brain cancer. When we run out of options drugs like this can be a way to extend our lives.

Purple-Bike profile image
Purple-Bike in reply toIslandboy2021

There is promise, but clinical evidence is thin and, as far as I could find, confined to brain cancer. Neuropathy is a concern.

DCA used by Naturopath

Two tiny studies on brain cancer, much preclinical, many anecdotal reports including from members of this forum, and clinics actually using DCA.

If one wants to take a chance on this, it seems not to be for keeping the cancer in remission but to battle recurrence.

The Naturopath says intravenous DCA has better efficacy and with less side effects than taking it orally which could lessen concerns with neuropathy. If my PCa strikes back I would do some research on the data available at a clinic like hers.

Islandboy2021 profile image
Islandboy2021 in reply toPurple-Bike

This doctor Sharon Gurm is very convincing. This clinic is only a few hours drive from where I live. I will call for an appointment and see what they offer and the cost. I see they are Naturopath Doctors. I have seen a Naturopath Doctor at the beginning of this disease. The list of supplements they wanted me to take was disturbing. I only ended up taking a few as they were problematic when doing some of the early SOC treatments.

Indeed she is. It would be great if you could share your impressions after visiting her clinic.Could you share the list of supplements recommended by the ND, or those you found most promising?

Islandboy2021 profile image

I am only taking AOR Bone Basics, Vitamin D, BroccoGen 10, and started Turmeric/Curcuma again.

There were too many supplements to sort out. My cancer found a way around everything anyway.

I did the vegan diet with salmon, no alcohol and worked out. Almost got 5 years of low PSA.
