I use that handle because I changed careers and began my grad work to become a librarian, everyone I know was supportive, but commented on my being way too loud to work in a library. 😂 Managed to survive 25 years without being told to shush. I grew up in NYC and you know how we can be.
Yes... Stage IV meta discovered in my Peritoneal, and Appendix. Was fortunate in a way as at the time, I was in discovery phase for recurrence, but was experiencing flank pain on my lower right side. After some tests, it was suspected possible appendicitis, so planned to remove the Appendix. Up to that point no scans really defined any suspect regions in regard to PCa or the recurrence. Just some inflammation, especially near the appendix with a node thickening...
Well, was a surprise to awake from the Appendix surgery to learn it wasn't completed because they found lesions studding my peritoneal, in addition to a tumor on my appendix which has also attached to my colon. Nodes taken were clean...
Followed with 2nd attempt at Appendix removal and all lesions that were "seen"... Stitched me back up and moved forward. Plan was to determine what type of "systemic" therapy to chose. Lifetime ADT was assured now at this point. I decided on going the chemo route as I'm still in my 50's... So that's what we did.
Chemo failed one year later as did the Orgovyx... New scans showed some suspect locations, one being a staple location at the colon resection. 3 spots total... We applied RT, before that switched from Orgovyx to Degarelix and added an inhibitor, Darolutamide. PSA dropped like a rock! So far, so good and keeping my fingers crossed. We also added a kicker, Lynparza due to my BRCA deletion... Again, "MY" cancer, isn't your cancer.
One thing I'll add, that I'm keeping in my hip pocket, is "IF" peritoneal lesions are found again, I am definitely looking at HIPEC therapy!
A note:. I've been a consistent low PSA, low PSMA producer. Scans never really show much, and most "suspect" spots were noted as "probably not" all turned out to be positive. So imaging only shows so much, and is highly subject to the person viewing them.
Good Luck and Best Regards
