My medical oncologist is now a friend - and I always tell him to "get back to curing cancer" when we say goodbye after a tele-visit. His comment is "we're getting close".. he's Dr. Charles Drake MD/PhD - one of the immunotherapy pioneers.

The usual cures (standards of treatment) of burn, poison or cut are really so brutal and backwards - they often do as much damage as they do good (cure the cancer and kill the patient). I believe the consensus now is that most cancers are caused by weakened immune systems -- caused by age, or damage due to poisons in the environment. The real cure will be found when the function of the immune system can be enhanced and restored. Hopefully - that's not in the too distant future.

Good Ted talk Scout!

What if one has autoimmune illnesses? Every drug to try to survive increases cancer risk.

Yes I think so. But they are so complicated. Not so easy to use.

T-cells is complicated therapy and logistically impossible to scale. NK cells is the new area of interest and can be offered of the shelf

Want to learn more about T-cells fighting cancer? Watch a documentary called "BreakThrough." It's about Dr. Jim Allison - he won the 2018 Nobel prize in medicine for his work in immuno therapy (CAR T-cells). I watched it on Prime or Netflix, your local library, perhaps even YouTube are sources. Made me feel I have a chance at beating my statge 4 metastatic prostate cancer. Good luck to all!

Hey Scout--to you and the first to respond Don,

Don't wait for the "cure". Do what you can now. There are ways to make your own immune system function better and clean it.

Supplements such as milk thistle can help support liver function.

Heavy metals in our bodies can be removed through chelation.

Mushrooms and mushroom supplements strengthen the immune system.

On line you will find a study by UCLA that found that the bodybuilding supplement, creatine, strengthens T cells. Imagine that!

If what you eat initiates a response from your body to deal with the inflammation caused by the food, it might be better to eat foods that strengthen, cleanse the body and fight cancer.

The synergy of food and supplements too, is powerful.

While scientist are following the hypothesis, theory, testing, compilation of empirical data and finally, "Hey this works!", route, do what you can for yourself.

Nice post Scout!

Glad you enjoyed it.

Am taking milk thistle, do psychedelic shrooms count? Took creatine to help with lifting per Nal’s suggestion, have an unfinished bottle as my creatine levels are at top of range on my blood tests

Hey Scout,

The Japanese have been prescribing PSK, polysaccharide K, also known as Turkey Tail mushroom for chemo patients since the 80's. It is on the net. It has been found to be beneficial or they would stopped prescribing PSK. Chemo not only destroys cancer cells but can also suppress or destroy the immune system, hence, bone marrow transplants.

You will find info on the net about mushrooms. Remember synergy! One type complements another strengthening each other such as curcumin and ginger. There is quite a bit of study done and ongoing with mushrooms.

Stamets has an immune formula in a powder as well as capsules of Turkey Tail and a blend of 18 mushrooms in capsules named "My Community". Try to use organic whichever brand you buy.

PSK, IP6, pterostilbene , MCP with curcumin and ginger will activate the NK cells to optimum level.

This group seems to deny anything not backed up by clinical trials. Should we ignore this? I won't. Thanks for the report.

Somehow your post drifted from T cell advances to supplements.

As far as supplements I lived in Japan and they are marketed heavily and corporations have influence in the government to bring/push supplements into SOC.

Here's an excerpt from a study done in Japan. Just a study but food for thought.

However, many reports indicate that dietary supplements interact with medicines. The most well-known example is St. John’s wort (Hypericum perforatum L.). St. John’s wort contains hyperforin, which increases the expression of cytochrome P450 (CYP), especially CYP3A4, and affects drug metabolism in the liver [23]. Other herbs (e.g., black cohosh, coleus forskohlii, echinacea, garlic, ginkgo, ginseng, green tea, kava, and milk thistle) [24,25,26,27,28] and ingredients (e.g., catechins [29], curcuminoids [30], isoflavones [31], quercetin [32], polyphenols [33], and resveratrol [34]) also affect drug metabolizing enzymes.
