Rainbow of fruit and veg the best prevention against prostate cancer

"Men who consume colourful fruits and vegetables on a regular basis are less likely to be diagnosed with prostate cancer (PC), according to new research by University of South Australia scientists.

A rainbow of foods rich in certain micronutrients helps to prevent prostate cancer (PC) as well as speed up recovery among men who undergo radiation treatment for the disease.

...

Increased DNA damage after radiation exposure was also associated with low lycopene and selenium in blood plasma.

...

Study co-author Dr Permal Deo says eating foods that are naturally rich in lycopene and selenium is preferable to taking supplements, where the benefits are limited, according to previous studies.

“Our recommendation is to adopt a Mediterranean diet enlisting the help of a dietician because people absorb nutrients in different ways, depending on the food, the digestive system, the person’s genotype and possibly their microbiome,” Dr Deo says

Diet is half of everything! Maybe if we all had eaten correctly our pc might have stayed away? The problem that I see in many on this cite is that they will refuse to stop the sad diet … especially stopping meat .. I did it 8 yrs ago upon dx . I think it’s a major reason why I’m still here today as good as I am .? Men , especially old men are set in their ways . You do you . Good luck !

It was during a total health reset (lost 140lbs, no surgery) that I was diagnosed with PC - Gleason 9, RP, 1 lymph node showed some cancer activity, 3 years later one spot found on a PSMA and RT last May/June. I adopted a Blue Zones lifestyle and my doctors feel it has contributed to my positive attitude and outcomes so far. Diet is personal and I don't beat anyone up over their choices. This disease can be tough for many. Along with improving the diet - exercise has been found to be highly beneficial in prevention of cancer and in preventing/slowing spread of cancer, as well as a positive attitude and outlook.

So many variables - Gleason score, spread?, age, other health problems, etc. I'm always respectful of the choices others make, offering information for them to take in and use as they see fit.

Thank you, full checkups with both RT & MO at end of month along with colonoscopy. Of course there is a little trepidation to blood tests, but no fear. Have been told I will probably be up for a bone scan in the next few months. Good luck to you and all in your journey.

Pretty much true for all illness. Yet still, even healthy, diet conscious people get cancer and other illnesses. Naturally a strong healthy body before an illness is better able to survive treatment. No guarantees though. All we can do is try our best.

Yes fruits and veggies are great for everything . But not the high sugar fruits like grapes oranges or banana if fighting an aggressive pc . That’s per my naturalpathic oncologist . I stopped all sugars and animal proteins until I shook off my c . Now I cheat a little now and then . This is after 8 yrs ,7 yrs under the radar . Prior to pc I ate it all . Not too much veggies . A lot of high proteins . Now im 80 % vegan . I eat some sugars .
