My 64 year old dad has just been approved for Pluvicto treatment at a hospital near me. He lives about 3 hours away with my stepmother currently.
Myself, my husband and my two children live 40 min from the treatment center so I told him I could take him to treatments here.
I am unsure how Pluvicto treatments work so asking for a bit of clarity what I can expect. If he needs to stay in my home I could get my son’s room ready for him to stay but he’s pretty insistent he won’t have to stay here and we could just work out a system to meet my stepmom halfway after the treatment.
Will he have multiple doc visits between treatments? Is it safe for him to stay in my home with young children? Will he be in any condition to travel 3+hours in a car over a couple days?
Thank you for your help! Longtime lurker as my dad has been battling advanced prostate cancer for awhile.

My guy did three round of pluvicto and drove himself back and forth to treatments. He had about a 90 minute drive. I was required to keep 6 foot distance for 3 days following treatments so that is probably more what needs to be considered.
His side effects were pretty minimal vs other treatments he had done. The hardest part for us was the “steer clear” for 3 days.
Hi MamainChiefMy husband just had Pluvicto #4 last week. We're 2 1/2 hours from our treatment center. You will be given instructions, but basically what Zengal said...6 feet away for 3 days. My husband hasn't had any side effects other than fatigue and has driven home after all treatments. I ride in the back seat - passenger side. Maybe not 6' away, but close enough. We have young grandkids and avoid contact with them for a full week after treatment. He has a separate bathroom that he uses and I take extra care cleaning it. His laundry for the week after is washed separately. We have an appointment with his doctor the week before his appointment. So there's 2 trips to the treatment center in 6 weeks. There are labs done every 2 weeks, but we have them done locally and send the results to his doc.
I'm hoping your dad tolerates Pluvicto well. Many do. It is hard to steer clear like zengal mentioned. We forget. A lot!
When I had Lu 177 PSMA in Germany in 2016 I was in the hospital 3 nights and then they discharged me without any restriction. I did not alarmed the detectors at the airports the following day.
The first 3 days are crucial. Keep the distance from other members of the family.
Use your own bathroom if possible. Wash hands frequently, flash toilet twice with the lid down.
If you have incontinence then it is more complicated. You need to change pads and diapers more frequently and put in a plastic bags inside a plastic trash container and keep them for 8 weeks before putting in the regular trash.
Change underwear everyday and put all your dirty clothes in a plastic bag and inside a plastic trash container and by the end of the week wash all your cloths separately from the clothes of others in the family.
So happy for your dad!!!! My dad is starting his second treatment end of the month...echoing everyone else's response regarding safety protocols. I bought my dad "treatment week" underwear as well as a washable laundry basket, separate from my mom's. Radiation is released through the urine so it's crucial 1) your dad urinates relatively quickly after treatment 2) hydrates!!!!! and 3) flushes twice, cleans toilet with gloves in case of any urine splatter. Despite some fatigue and minor dry mouth, my dad has been responding very well!!! Will be keeping you in my thoughts, and best of luck to him!!!!
