When I had consultation with oncologist she told me there's a correlation between prostate cancer and breast/ovarian cancer in close relatives and would I be OK if my 3 daughters were genetically checked for a connection. What's the link as I'm waiting for possible testing, please note as far as I'm aware there,'s no breast or ovarian cancer in the family
Prostate cancer in men and breast/ova... - Advanced Prostate...
Prostate cancer in men and breast/ovarian can cer in women in blood relatives
This would be related to the presence of a BRCA mutation
Are we their patient or are we their lab rats, or both?
Did she identify the specific genes, or is she just recommeding for you to get genetically tested for mutations?
A difficult conversation to have with your daughters. I have 4 daughters myself and inhereted some crap genetics from mom's side, broken MSH2 and EPCAM . These are referred to as the Lynch genetics and can be directly linked to having an 80% chance of getting colon cancer, higher chance of other cancers, and a 50% chance of passing the broken gene to your children.
After DX, at age 58, the 'genetic doctor' at CTCA strongly urged and recommended my kids get tested and provided the links/phone numbers for them to call and get it done, even offered to write/email to them directly.
I did have the conversation. None have had any testing done, yet. All feel they are too young to worry about it. Hell, i didn't want to know either! I was suppose to get tested when i was 40, but who cares at age 40? Cleveland Clinic wanted to follow me then when my mother tested. I declined. Today I wish I would have enrolled.
So maybe it gets down to, what genetic traits do you individually have to pass along, and are those enough to bring alarm?
Absolute connection. Living proof. DNA repair genes. Ours is Rad51c
My dad’s mom had ovarian cancer. My dad’s (only) brother had thyorid, kidney and agressive prostate cancer. I will push for genetic testing.
My sister had both ovarian and breast cancer. I have prostate cancer. Both of us tested positive for BRCA 2.
Ill keep my answer concise...dxd w ductal hystology....gl9.... brca.....for breast cancer.....ductal is a hystology of breast cancer....i was born with a undecened teste......nature couldnt make up its mind is my thought...maybe its why im cofortable in heals.....happy new year ...bruddahs....hope to see most of you next jan 1....bw
My mother died of ovarian cancer but I was genetically tested and do not have BRCA abnormality.
My husband's mother had both colon and breast cancer. Survived both. My husand and his 3 older brothers all were diagnosed with prostate cancer at about the same age. He was only tested for BRCA. He doesn't have the mutation. We don't know about his brothers.
I have Chek2 mutation. One of my younger sisters has ovarian and melanoma cancer but doesn’t have the Chek2 Mutation. Two of my older sisters have Chek2 but no sign of cancer yet. I have urged them to share with families and get tested.
I " believe " in the strong possibility of connection. Mother - Colon cancer, younger sister thyroid - older sister - breast cancer. I said yes to genetic testing when first diagnosed. I believe it is important for the next generation, and now the generation after, to have info and that their MDs are aware.
I had a cancer doctor told me that my cancer resembled breast cancer. Karmanos Detroit.
