I found it is good for managing muscle cramps.

A lot of people don't get enough magnesium so it's a good supplement.

Nothing to rely upon for treatment though.

it’s good for constipation.

in reply to Gl448

if I am not mistaken, I think the citrate form is best for constipation. This form is probably the cheapest.

Magnesium Glycinate for our purposes seems to be best. Take your magnesium in the morning. Do not take a supplement that has both magnesium plus calcium. If you want to take calcium take that at night , the absorption is better while you are sleeping for the calcium . I hope this is a better answer then “no”, because I said so. Yes, it will not cure your cancer but it has its benefits.

Not cancer related, but I take magnesium at night because I think it helps me relax and sleep better. Didnt know that shouldnt take it with calcium - so many supplements have both together. Why is it bad to take Calcium and Magnesium together?

in reply to Bspouse

they stop each other from absorbing properly. So the Calcium will hinder the magnesium absorption. B, if you don’t take Calcium take your magnesium at night, what you are doing is perfectly fine.

thanks for the quick reply - that makes sense. Prayers for a good year for you and family.

Thank you B, you too❤️B l would encourage you to research calcium and magnesium and the benefits of taking together or separately. You can also research the different forms of calcium to make sure it’s right for you. My husband does not take calcium supplements but takes 500 ml of magnesium glycinate every day.

I am fine with this but prefer to take the vitamins separately. Yes every form of Magnesium plays a bit differently. The bottom line is, yes if we could get all of this through our diets, that would be best, but many of us have poor appetites. Thank you Ying.

Is there evidence of magnesium supplementation acting against osteo in those whole mg levels are in the normal range?

Yes, Melatonin 10mg at night for a sound sleep but I found 20mg too much.

For bones I take Magnesium Glycinate 665mg, vitamin D3 125mcg, vitamin K2 180mcg with a zinc tablet usually every other day. Just my preference.

in reply to ARIES29

My husband same, with the exceptions of higher doses of melatonin and only 500 mg magnesium glycinate. His blood work shows calcium levels all within normal range, does not take calcium.

I read that too much Calcium can thicken the blood & cause plaque. Although good for bones in moderation.

in reply to ARIES29

Aries, the key is moderation. I am not comfortable with high doses of calcium, and there are so many easy ways we can up our calcium levels. Raw almonds 27 almonds are a serving and low in calories. Drizzled with some home grown honey makes a great snack. Broccoli another good source. Have your pasta with Broccoli olive oil oregano basil salt and pepper. You don’t always need sauce. Chia seeds, plant based yogurt with Pom seeds, a taste sensation.

Mio

My creation …pasta olive oil and sautéed vegetables.

That looks good, now Im hungry. Chia seeds supress appetite so sprinkle over food.

in reply to ARIES29

I didn’t know about appetite suppressant. They do have a good amount of calcium and other nutrients but don’t it them dry,

what is transdermal estrogen, is that the E2? Thanks Smarty!

I remember you do this along with your lupron?

Magnesium is great for heart health, especially if you are prone to atrial fibrillation.

lupron is no walk in the park, is it Smarty!

Ying, yesss I remember. She was a brave one!!

did the same to Jim, I remember when you posted how you were feeling… terrible!

Thanks!

May I burden you some more? I was only on ADT for 10 months, my T has recovered fully, my Mg and Ca is in the normal range and my osteo preceeded my PCa. Given this, I believe exercise is the way to go, and not supplements. I do multidirectional jumping off a chair landing on one heel at a time, and arresting falls towards a wall with one wrist at a time. I´ll be testing this for a longer time before I take a new DEXA, hoping to avoid Prolia. Only hips and wrists are osteo, spine is fine. Am I doing OK....?

College years in the U.S. have Americanized me, I suppose:)

I appreciate your thoughtful suggestions!

I have considered Prolia, but I cringe at the idea of being dependent on it for life since I understand discontinuation carries a real risk of severe side effects like compression fractures.

My blood sugar is indeed slightly below the normal range the last few hours before I eat my single meal, but I have none of the ill feelings associated with hypoglycemia so I judge it not to be dangerous. I am more concerned with my glucose spike after this big meal, but it´s within the safe boundaries and with metformin I get a bigger margin. The benefits of low insulin in the absence of caloric intake starts at around 13-14 hours so eating after 16 hours ends the cycle at an early stage, releasing insulin and stopping fat burning mode. And the 20-hour fast increases the likelihood of autophagy.

If what I write doesn´t make sense please let me know!
