After Abiterone stops working, would Darolutamide be an option?

my brother has stage 4 prostate cancer. He responded well to Abiterone for 20 months and it recently stopped. The doctor is wanting him to start Docetaxel chemo and I know it has terrible side effects. I read somewhere that trying Daralutamide msg be an option. Has anyone tried this? Also, what is the difference between getting Docetaxel or Cabizataxel?

Many thanks in advance

There is cross-resistance between hormonal therapies- the second one may work for a short time, but not for long. Docetaxel is a better option. Sometimes docetaxel can keep the hormonal therapy working, as in this trial:

Cabazitaxel is only approved for after docetaxel fails.

Also, don't be so worried that Docetaxel has terrible side effects. I haven't had it yet, but I do know that many men have relatively mild side effects - if they take the precautions advised before, during and after infusions. It's fairly short duration and it's not the worst kind of chemo. In your brother's situation, I would take the doctor's advice and go for Docetaxel. As TA says, that might also re-sensitise the cancer to respond to hormonal therapies afterwards.

Which precautions should one take before, during, and after chemo?

There have been various posts with advice. This a good one:

I think this is really important. The challenge is to persuade NHS Oncologists to agree. I think the UK view is that it is not proven.

I was on Erleada (apalutamide) for over 4 years until the started making me very dizzy. I was set to start Taxotere, at the last minute my doctor decided to put me on Zytiga. Your brother can ask about either Nubeqa (darolutamide), Xtandi (enzalutamide) or Erleada (apalutamide). As far as this type of drug he has options. WRT the chemo, I cannot answer that intelligently since I have yet to experience it. Hope this helps!

I just saw Tall Allen replied. Please trust his recommendations A LOT MORE than me!!

Don't be afraid of docetaxel. My husband tolerated it well. He went to the gym 5 days a week and didn't stop working during his chemo. That was 5 years ago. He did lose hair, was fatigued a bit more, etc. But none of the really awful stuff I think people fear.
