Unfortunately contracted RSV last month. Very sick. Lost 12 pounds. Went for chemo #6 Wednesday at Moffitt Cancer Tampa however PSA rose from 92 to 176. So now wait for PSMA scans and hopefully treatment. I have to increase my hemoglobin to 10 so increasing caloric intake plus was told to eat red meat. Any recommendations
ow what?: Unfortunately contracted... - Advanced Prostate...
ow what?
When my grandmother was dying from acute leukemia in a church affiliated hospital that served meat only when specifically ordered by the doctor, the kitchen would cook the meat to leather before serving. The family had to sneak rare steak to her during visitation hours.
Good eating!
Another Moffitt Man.. ? Med Rare Burgers at Burger Monger..? Reverse Seared 1.5" Cowboy Rib Eye? Let's meet fir lunch at TDB.. (Texas de Brazil) Best red meat this side of the Hillsborough River All Kidding aside . I've been fighting he beast since 2010.. I'm on chemo now too. just finished round three. Do you have a port? I can't decide weather to have one installed or not. If I may ask who is your MO? I'm with Dr. Jain, I miss Dr. M. Friedman Any time you want to chat .. friend me on FB Larry Siegfried 👍
Chemo Brain...Yes Dr. Fishman. I almost ended up with Dr. Zhang, but he said something that really threw me...I was always getting ultra sensitive PSA tests..before, my first test after Dr. Fishman he switched to a standard test..I asked why..he said it's a waste of money...I asked if it was his money.. lol..Since then All of my Dr.s here and at the Mayo Clinic ask for ultrasensitive tests. BTW all of the men in a private group I belong to on FB also get ultrasensitive tests. I just thought Dr.Zhang was a little to full of himself and smirk for me.
Dr Fishman was also checking T levels. Now my primary does annually. In agreement with Dr Zhang it does remain negative. I’m hoping that all the Drs at Moffitt GU have access to the same research. In reading post I seem to follow somewhat everyone else’s track. Currently seeing PA only and now under the care of Radiology. A new chapter as now I appear to be resistant to the “standard of care” regiment.
Hey Richard, I'm sorry to hear that "Standard of Care" has stopped working for you. I've heard that some men start over with drugs that have failed in the past ,but seem to start working again ie: Zytiga and that group. Yes I remember that Dr. Fishman was also checking T levels. I pretty much see Sara the PA as well.. with a once in 3-4 months when Dr. Jain pops in.
If you haven't looked into it, I would suggest a call to the Mayo Clinic and see if you can set up an appointment for imaging and a consult with Dr. Eugene Kwon. A second ~ third opinion is worth it especially from Dr. Kwon.. He is brilliant and thinks out of the box and is always on the leading edge as far as research and technique. In answer to your statement about the Dr.s in the GU clinic all having the same access to research.. I'm sure they must... but do they talk with each other??? I know for a fact that Dr. Jain refused to talk to Dr. Kwon at the Mayo clinic. In my opinion that is digesting, not to want to explore and share the findings of one of the country's most renowned urologists.' If it wasn't so cold I would move to Rochester MN. So I could be treated full time by Dr. Kwon. To give you a idea of the type of man he is.. on my first visit.. he gave me his personal cell number and said PLEASE do not hesitate to call me with any of your thoughts or concerns.. I'm here for you 24/7 At Moffitt you are lucky if a nurse on the team calls you back. (Yes as you must realize by now I am pretty much disenchanted with the general attitude and care given there.
thanks Larry. I will defiantly reach out to Dr Kwon. Actually my wife (previous medical career and oncology patient herself) feels it is a much better fit for us than FL Cancer Sarsota or Venice were. I assume the standard care is still working just not as well as before. I was diagnosed April 2013 and have beat the odds until now. But as someone else posted this disease is not for sissies! My PMSA is scheduled on the 12th. Will definitely affect our holiday travel
we will need to meet soon.
Yes... we should meet one day.. and share our experiences.
