Hi hubby now been in hospital for a week. Was brought in and put on morphine and ketamine as pain in back had been getting worse over a number of weeks. Had ct scan Thursday morning, after Dr saw it, she ordered mri scan for the afternoon. After looking at it he is now no longer allowed to get out of bed. She says no spinal cord compression but met on rib needs dealing with. Our Dr is away until Wednesday. Thursday/Friday a team will look at it and decide what treatment to take. It’s almost a year since initial diagnosis psa was 600 Mets to back, pelvis, chest lymph nodes. Put on Firmagon, docetaxel then straight onto Cabazitaxel. Just starting third week of xtandi. Psa after docetaxel 8 psa after Cabazitaxel 150. Has anybody else undergone treatment for back Mets and if so what did you/they have. Have a bed beside him in hospital. Can’t help thinking that I am going to loose him quicker than we had hoped because of this back problem. Thought at diagnosis we might have a couple of years, now scared that it might just be months left. My sister was diagnosed 3 weeks before hubby with Glioblastoma cancer. She is still with us, but drs do not expect her to make Xmas. Sorry for any typo errors, in pieces, sobbing my heart out as quietly as possible so as to not wake hubby. Thanks in advance
Painful Mets to ribs. Radiation or o... - Advanced Prostate...
Painful Mets to ribs. Radiation or operation.
My heart's most genuine prayers are going out to you right now dear sister... Reach out to Jesus...He's there for you... 🙏✝️🌹
If it is no spinal cord compression, he will not die soon. Surgery is usually done in case of spinal cord compression so your doctor will probably recommend radiation.
Sending you love and ((HUGS)) and praying for you, your husband, and your sister. That's a lot for you to deal with all at once but I know you have an inner strength that will help you through this difficult time. I'm hoping the doctor will have a good treatment plan that will help your husband on Wednesday!
Radiation usually has a great response, but pain may be worse for a week or two before it gets better. But if the radiation would hit critical organs, they may not be able to use it.
could you request guardant 360 cdx liquid biopsy?
Maybe Keytruda or Olaparib could be effective?
Oh I am so sorry to read this. And two people in your life suffering like that must be very tough to handle. I hope that they will treat the mets quickly. Best wishes to you all. 🙏
sending love to you and strength to your husband💪❤️
Update. Hubby going for operation on spine on 25th November and then will get radiation. No spinal cord compression at the moment, but they want to make sure it does not happen in the future. He’s had a one off bodice made for him which means he can now walk and sit without worrying about his back. Still on the morphine and ketermine.
Hopefully they will do the tissue biopsy and send it to genetic testing.
Hello,
I read your post and your story sounds similar to mine. Until diagnosed June 2021, I was active, fit and I thought healthy. I only saw my Dr. for an annual physical. Never had a PSA test. I had increasing back pain that was eventually diagnosed as prostate cancer that had metastasized to my spine. The pain was excruciating. 3 days after diagnosis I had surgery to remove the largest of 3 tumors. It was causing spinal cord compression. I started ADT, no chemo, no radiation. My PSA dropped over the months until it became undetectable where it remains now 16 months after the surgery.
I now have occasional very minor back discomfort. A few days ago I was out doing yard work including using a chainsaw to cut some logs.
I know everybody responds to treatment differently, but I wanted to share this with you to let you know that sometimes the treatments help a lot. I will be praying for you and your husband that everything goes well on the 25th. If you are able, please let us know how everything goes - this is a great place to reach out to helpful people.
