correlation between prostate cance(PC) and Parkinson’s disease (PD)

just wondering if there are any relationship between PC and PD ? I know of many people who have both. Has any one heard of this? Thanks.

I seem to remember I looked at some research wrt low cholesterol and Parkinson’s. I was looking at heart related issues and statins. Sorry but this was a very long time ago. Maybe you could take a look around and research that… maybe. Hope it helps.

I'd be curious because my husband has both.

He has just joined the group of vets in a class action law suit originating in NC...seeking some sort of compensation for exposure to amazingly high levels of toxins in the water at Camp Lejeune. The government was aware of the situation for over 25 years and nothing to alert or protect the personnel there. The list of diseases includes both PD and prostate cancer....among many. This doesn't imply that the two are related in any way but only that both may be caused by exposure to toxins.

It’s strange. My two next door Neighbors, on my right and on my left has PD and one of them has PC too. I don’t know if it’s a coincidence.

My husband has been diagnosed with prostate cancer for 22 years. He has probably had Parkinson’s Disease for 10 years but diagnosed about five years ago.

I have had to catch up learning about PD after researching prostate cancer for many years. I have come across no connection to those two diseases. Also yours is the first Parkinson’s post I have seen here.

Wild speculation - autopsy studies show that the gadolinium contrast used in MRIs deposits in the brain. I wonder if that could be the connection.

I have essential tremor. It causes hand shaking and can morph in to worse problems. I am taking propranolol twice daily which was prescribed by a neurologist who I trust very much. The propranolol helps some but does not stop my intermittent shaking. This is not unusual.

When you first go in they test you for Parkinson's as well as several other syndromes and diseases which can cause tremor. I do not have Parkinson's or any of the other diseases. So I have done some research on all things which cause tremor. My essential tremor will likely progress like Parkinson's does. However, Parkinson's is a much, much more serious disease and I feel for you and your diagnosis.

Most of these tremors, including essential and Parkinson's, are definitely linked to aging. So is prostate cancer. They are much different diseases. While I am not a neurologist, I have always had a serious interest in neurology and almost went in to the area after I got my science BS.

If it were me, and I had Parkinson's or essential tremor, I would not suspect a correlation between those diseases and prostate cancer except that both are more likely as you age. You should ask your neurologist about it and your oncologist though. I highly suspect they will say there is very unlikely a link to the two.

were you in VietNam or in the Reserves afterwards? IF in USAF or reserves, did you have contact with the C-123 planes? Agent Orange as well as its residue are considered contributing factors to Prostate Cancer as well as Parkinsonism, i.e., essential tremors and Parkinson's Disease.

I am 72 and was diagnosed with prostate cancer 6 years ago. My twin brother was diagnosed with Parkinson's 2 years ago. Is that something headed my way too?
