Interesting how things like healthy eating, full of vitamins etc., and exercising that increases biologic levels of certain body compounds just like supplements do, but have supposedly different effects on the body and PCa.
I am not a scientist/biologist in any way but this seems contradictory to me.
why would you take what you know are “unscientific” comments into consideration at all? Sinclair’s very interesting work with yeasts and review of work with other animals is interesting and she’d a light on epigenetic influences on aging. Specifically as relates to Sirtuins, which refer to NAD+ dependent Histone De-acetylases, HDACs, of a particular type. Just one of several complex components of epigenetic modulation.
NADH+, as well as NADPH+ mechanisms are very important to cellular protection and function. We know NAD+ levels decline with age, so supporting levels with moderate supplementation of sources such as NMN seems sensible. But don’t expect to feel any different in the short run. Just perhaps maintaining the present “normal”, which doesn’t feel like anything! It is one small piece of the puzzle, IMO. I take a little NMN about twice a week along with a glass of low expectations.
Well said.... Difficult to say if NMN has some observable effect on me. I guess every person has different reaction....Some find it full of energy as Marcel in THEPULSE sings the song.
I will take 500 g about 3 times a week as prudence....I also take Resveratrol ...300 mg
May I ask what dose you have arrived at?As you say, it should be fine to up one's NAD+ level to what it was at a younger age, but how does one aim for the right dose of NMN?
It is just an animal study FWIW, but I am cautious in going too high (believe I have seen some more similar stuff)
"A paper published in the journal Biosensors and Bioelectronics has caused a stir in the longevity community by showing that nicotinamide riboside (NR), a precursor to NAD+, makes tumors more aggressive in a mouse model [1]"
I don’t pay any attention to those who say this or that supplement, vitamin, etc, is good or not good for PC. Totally lacking foundation and playing on fears to garner attention. No clinical trials in actual PC patients: No credible evidence. I do take Vitamin E intermittently. No benefit in prevention but that does not mean it is harmful. It is a vitamin after all. Yet I do not believe it is beneficial for PC nor for cellular protection either. Plenty of evidence to disprove supplemental antioxidants as protective.
However, there is good evidence from RCTs that the combination of high dose Vitamin E when combined with Pentoxiphyline (Trental) is beneficial in treating radiation induced neuro plexopathy, such as in breast cancer patients. I used the combo for a few months when I thought I might have sacral plexopathy from pelvic radiation. Helps to heal some of the microvascular damage, which is the same mechanism as with radiation proctitis. So not unreasonable, but not actually tested.
I have some off again on again bleeding from radiation proctitis for many years. Dilute formalin applications helped in the past, but it comes back. Nature of the beast.
No reason other than it is not an unreasonable dose of a generally safe supplement that I am not worried about taking. Cannot parse every detail. It is about supporting an aging body, not all about PC.
From a quick search, FWIW, cancer risk seems fairly limited. From that perspective, MateoBeach's,twice weekly dose appears conservative.
E.g. "Cancer Risks
One concern is that, because NMN promotes the growth of new blood vessels, it could also promote angiogenesis and increase blood flow to tumors. In theory, this could cause tumors to grow and resist treatment.
Additionally, certain brain cancers depend on NAD to grow. Therefore, increasing NAD through NMN supplementation could be dangerous in people at risk of these cancers [11, 29].
However, in Sinclair’s study, NMN’s effect on angiogenesis – the growth of new blood vessels – only restored the elderly mice’s vascular health to that of normal young mice. There were no signs of increased cancer risk in this or other long-term NMN animal studies. More studies should look into its effects on cancer risk,"
Lot of contradictory studies which have really no scientific bases...as applied to humans..
Some of these guys just publish anything to publish...these review studies...
Sure, Testosterone is food for PC and cutting off is possible with little damage to normal cells...but not NAD+ ....It is necessary for all cells..and PC cells eat same food...
Intermittent fasting helps to reset things....
By exercise, we increase NAD+ and it is very healthy against cancer...
NMN promotes immune system and that promotes anticancer....
Aging is the mother of all diseases....we can reverse aging by supplements and keep cancer cells in control.
With my gut feeling, I take 500 mg with resveratrol and TMG mixed with Goat yogourt and MCT oil twice or three times a week.
Wish we have some simple biomarkers...for load of cancer cells....
All we can say I am in remission....nobody knows where are cancer cells and when they will take over...It is like blind men describing an elephant....
I believe in patient power and this Stone Age butcher medicine is one part...
May be new arrival of Epigenetics thru young daring researchers will change medical profession...
