Appreciate your comments. Will discuss with new urologist that was recommended at my request by my primary doctor.

A hyperbaric therapy may help you:

Thanks GP24. Tried hyperbaric treatments for radiation proctitis. Forty treatments negative results.

Did you have fecal incontinence in 2019 too? If not, it is unlikely to be because of radiation. It may be a bug or a reaction to a food, but if it continues, see a gastroenterologist.

Thanks for your reply Tall-Allen. Severe rectal bleeding treated at Mayo, Rochester, October 2021. Incontinence started following Formalin treatment that stopped the proctitis but created new ulcers.

What does your gastroenterologist say? Was hyperbaric oxygen discussed?

GI at Mayo recommended their Incontinence program. I tried hyperbaric treatment for my proctitis (rectal bleeding) Forty sessions no improvement. That’s when I went to Mayo (Oct 2021] for formalin treatment that stopped the bleeding but caused new ulcers. That’s when the Incontinence started

Bad, I am sorry that you are experiencing difficulties.. in reviewing your posts for the past three years, you remarked that you had a large prostate and Brachytherapy can be done.... this confused me. What was the estimated weight of your prostate? A normal prostate runs about 25 grams and an enlarged runs greater than 80 grams.

Mine was 84 grams. I had 117 Palladium Seeds and part 2 of my primary treatment was 25 sessions of IMRT. This was in 2003. Minor bleeding as expected. Multiple baths baths daily to urinate. I had a scheduled colposcopy in 2004. I have every 3 years. Gastroenterologist remarked, “light scarring on left side of colon”. He was amazed.....

I was a Gleason 7 (4+3) with a PSA of 6.3. I have taken two Flomax daily since the Brachytherapy. I used Anusol suppositories from 2003 to 2007 due to hemorrhoids brought about by not using stool softener.....

So I am curious...... best of luck in finding a solution. My only suggestion is that an experienced Gastroenterologist is best equipped to handle your situation, in my opinion and not an Urologist. Only by a scope can a pro tell what is going on. Finally Nalakrats suggestion follows his Masters, work experience, and Research in Diets. To me he is the pro in this group along these lines.

gourd_dancer, thanks for your reply. Size of prostate was 78cc. Another issue other than size was I have a narrow pubic arch. Dr. felt that restrictions would make planting the radiation source very difficult. We agree on 39 treatments EBRT. There is a reluctance (i agree) to any probing (scope) for fear of irritating ulcers and cause additional bleeding. My follow up exam at Mayo did just that. Mayo offered an Incontinence class that I’ve taken a pass on.

I am sorry you are experiencing side effects of the EBRT. I am scheduled to receive HDBT + EBRT + ADT (2 yrs) in late November. May I asked you if the use of SpaceOAR Gel was recommended? If yes, did you use it?

Thank you. Mike
