Chemicals in store bought Almond Milk!

I was corresponding with 2b lucky today about store bought almond milk. He said it’s probably unhealthy. I did some searching and found this article that says terrible things about store bought. The organic silk brand has these ingredients too. Small amounts probably don’t matter but i drink a couple gallons per week. I think I’m going to start making my own at home, from now on.

"Almond" milk is about 2% almonds! Either make your own or drink goat milk!

That's alarming. Thanks for posting. I agree with smurtaw that this seems a little sensationalized and against anything synthetic, but nonetheless will try making my own almond milk to see how it turns out.

I get the Whole Foods Organic Unsweetened almond milk and assumed it was just almond milk. never looked at the label. Now I see it has every chemical/supplement/additive discussed in the article. Hmmm.

Hey George,

I believe that Whole Foods carries this brand --

Organic Original Almondmilk, Unsweetened, 28 fl oz at Whole …

Organic Original Almondmilk, Unsweetened, 28 fl oz. Ingredients: Filtered Water, Organic Almonds.

If you make your own almond milk you control the quality of the water, (nothing like an artesian well where the water tests --hmm, hmm--well! Some people add a little sweetener, vanilla and salt.

A video--

When making your own start with chilled water, even a bit of ice to keep the temperature down when blending. Temperature degrades and shortens the storage time the "milk" can be kept. I use an Oster that has a heavy, thick, glass carafe that I put in the freezer for a couple hours before I make the drink with seeds, nuts, powders and frozen fruit.

I was thinking today that I might not drink as much, even the homemade stuff. I will start soaking the nuts I consume, to remove the phytic acid (anti-nutrient) and skip the almond milk on my oatmeal. Thanks for the recipe though. I might try that from time to time.

lol, I was adopted. Guess that is why I'm so strange.

Not sure about those synthetic vitamins but the one brand of almond milk gave me the worst constipation ever. Was it the carrageenan ?

I don’t know. I haven’t had constapation in a very long time. Vegetables fruit oatmeal herbal tea etc keep me regular. I’ve only had to use toilet paper about three times this year.
