My brothers battle is over

Dear friends, It is with extreme sadness that I write this. My youngest brother Bobby at age 58 passed this morning. He fought hard for himself and his family for almost 4 years at stage 4.

While he was declining quickly, his passing was unexpected this morning. He kissed his daughter and said goodbye as she went off to school and passed before she left the house.

The pain meds kept him out of pain although the invasion of his lungs created much difficulty with breathing these last 2 weeks.

Bob had a downhill slide that started in November with spinal surgery. He then was hit with numerous other events and entered hospice a month ago. He has had family by his side. It’s been extremely emotional for all of us

Bob has a devoted wife and 4 children. He has a large loving family and many many friends which is a testimony to a life well lived.

Your battle is over my dear sweet brother. Rest In Peace.

Sad to hear of his passing. He and his loving family fought hard to overcome the disease. I'm continually inspired by the stories of strength of fellow warriors. They give me strength to fight on.

Where do I go, and what do I say when I get there? I thank you for allowing me to participate in your brother's Journey. Everything I know about this disease was not enough to be of help. As the Lord, our God had other plans. His plans are perfect! I never called you by your real name, and that is OK as Faith is just so appropriate! And may Mercy and Grace follow you in all your days. {May the Lord Bless you and keep you, and make His face to shine upon you, and be gracious unto you, May the Lord lift up His countenance upon you, and may the Lord grant you His peace[Shalom]. Nal your advice over the years led us to Dr Beltran, helped us get to Foundation One and onto Keytruda. Keytruda gave him 8 months he wouldn’t have had. Because of you. Thank you for your advice and your beautiful prayers. They comfort me. In time I will check in. I still pray for people on this site. I will be writing his eulogy as he asked. I hope I can do his incredible life justice.

Pray before writing has always worked for me! That is how I got to write GreatJohn's--I prayed, and the words just came tumbling out. My fingers could almost not keep up, as the Holy Spirit went on helping me.

So sad to hear the news. He was much too young. I have been following your brother’s progress and hoping for the best as some of his treatments have been similar to my husband’s. Can’t believe your brother had to get shingles in the middle of all his other problems. Sounds like something my husband would do. Please accept my condolences and know that many of us will be thinking of you and your family.

I have been following your journey for a while and praying daily for Bob, his family and you for strength. This must have been the most painful post of all for you to write. I do want to thank you for being here for all of us. Not only did you seek answers here, but you've been ready to reply to others with the knowledge that you've fought so hard to acquire. I hope, after time, that you check back in with us. But completely understand if you can't. Please know that we share your sorrow. Prayers for strength for you and your family will continue. Another brother lost the battle but won the war. You have been a sister sent from God and your dear brother knew it as we all do. May he finally rest with the angels and watch his family from above. When I take that step from here to there I will meet your brother and I hope he recognizes me since I was the one who always called him Robert. God Bless you and God Bless him and his whole family and friends. 58 years old, he was too young(and has a special meaning to me). Very sorry to hear this sad news. Although I was not aware of your brother, it hits home for me since I was diagnosed at age 54. Fortunately I was diagnosed "early", and have been able to outrun it so far using surgery, lots of radiation, and chemo. I'm sure your brother's heart was filled with love and gratitude for you and his family. May you all live long and healthy.

We have "keyboarded" back and forth a few times. You have made HU and Malecare a better site and place to be.

You are a heroine, someone that is the glue that holds families together and who provides firm footing when a tragedy happens. Someone that others look to for support.

Do not forget to take time for yourself. Take time to grieve. Family, friends and clergy can be helpful--and sometimes --not. Some alone time can help too. We learn to live with a loss such as the feeling the loss of your brother must be to you. Every day of my life the most significant loss of a loved one in my life comes to mind and for decades has. The good memories, although tinged with a sadness, also are there. I wouldn't trade never having had that person in my life to avoid the pain of separation that death brings. I know that you wouldn't either.

Know that I and others here will be thinking of you.

I am a bit new to here and you came thru as a beacon to me the first times I saw your posts/replies.

You put a lot into this and it showed. It helped me. I still see hope for myself to gain some time due to what you have shared over the time you have been here.

I wish so strongly things would have gone differently for Bob. Young and young children. Not fair. Not right. I have come to understand the journey for all of us but it doesn't lessen how crappy it really is.

This is the part I hate about this website.......... I was afraid that this was coming. I also have an older brother we call Bobby (real name is Robert) who also has prostate cancer along with me, but we aren't close like you and your Bobby.

thinking and remembering Bob...

Thank you so much for remembering. We are planning for his wake on Thursday and his funeral on Friday. I wrote his obit and just finished writing the eulogy. This week has been a whirlwind. Lots of family all helping out and pitching in. His wife is really struggling.
