PSA 0.01 Undetectable at last !!!

Scout4answers profile image
59 Replies

After 8.5 months on Lupron and 6 Months on Zytiga. PSA reached undetectable levels.

Been off Zytiga for 14 days and liver enzymes have fallen back into normal range. Conversation with MO tomorrow , will see how and when he wants to restart it.

Life is good

Next step- radiation therapy.

I shall find out tomorrow.

PSA went from 28 to 16 a few weeks ago. Hoping for a sub 10. If not, well I will revaluate approach.

Great to read!

It took you a while to get to undetectable, and there is research out there showing that a gradual drop to PSA nadir tends to signal a better long term prognosis. So while your PSA is down, it looks like everything else is looking up. Enjoy!

Thanks, my read on situation as well.

I'm thinking you are in remission, and can now enjoy the healing.I'm so glad for you, Radiation,( burning), might not be needed as what is there to burn off?

Hi Canoehead.I heard about that: slow and steady PSA decrease under Zytiga means longer prognosis. But I have hardly been able to understand the reason for that ? Do you have any source you can share on the topic ?

Canoehead profile image
Canoehead in reply toBalylone

I read it here some years ago. I’m guessing Patrick or TA could cite the actual source.

Radiation is not required if PSA is undetectable. Why go off Zytiga?

Scout4answers profile image
Scout4answers in reply toPoowater

I have been thinking about this issue , I had an MRI on 4/20 that showed no cancer present, do you have any study or info to back that up.I have restarted Zytiga @250 mg.

Poowater profile image
Poowater in reply toScout4answers

No, just the fact that there is nowhere to radiate.

Congratulations, I've been on Zytiga, Lupron and Prednisone for about 4 years. In total 9 years of various treatments, only in the last two have I reached undetectable, but not as low as you.

I'm intrigued why you are not just going to continue as you are, it's a great result and if it's not broke, why try to fix it ?

All the best.

in reply toLettuce231

I'm assuming he figures he can at least try to cure it without taking ADT for the rest of his life, no?

Scout4answers profile image
Scout4answers in reply to

Yes

Lettuce231 profile image
Lettuce231 in reply to

Possible, but as far as I'm aware, there is no " cure " as such. Also there is the problem with the effects on Scout4answers liver, perhaps a reduction to 250 mg could be the way through. I'd be celebrating, great news for him.

in reply toLettuce231

that assumes the femur is actually a metastasis. it may very well not be.

Scout4answers profile image
Scout4answers in reply to

Femur is not thought to be a metastasis by ROs who have viewed MRIs and PET CT scans.

in reply toScout4answers

But they will still radiate just in case. and call it palliative. Which looks shocking on the insurance report but better than not radiating it.

Are you sure you need radiation?

👍

Scout4answers profile image
Scout4answers in reply toLrv44221

I am wondering this as well.

in reply toScout4answers

Just because the cancer is asleep doesn't mean a lot, does it? Why not pursue the course of radiation originally planned? Whole pelvic and prostate. Radiation to the femur "just in case." It might not be cancer in the femur and probably isn't but obviously you zap it anyway. I mean this radiation and everything either works or it doesn't but its definitely worth a try, seems to me.

Congratulations I'm on the same treatments four years now. I like you had Liver enzyme problems so my Doctor cut my Zytiga down to 750 mg three tablets and at first one and a half Prendisone to now one a day. My PSA has been 0.1 for four years now. Never give up Never surrender. Leo

I also had high liver on Zytiga. Went off for a month and went back to normal. Went right back up when I resumed. Had to switch and have been on the Ztandi Carousel for close to 2 years and PSI is <.1. Lowered the dose to 80mg to minimize side effects but still have the usual brain fog, fatigue, muscle loss, depression and joint pain. I wonder if it is the Lupron /Eligard, Ztandi or just old age? I'm on this treatment until resistance. No surgery or radation it has spread too far.

Glory to God! Reading your post and others have been so inspirational! Yes, I know every case is different but seeing so many are on the same regimen I am on and you are still here to talk about it is miraculous to me. I was diagnosed last year and my PSA has steadily dropped each appointment. I take Xgeva, Lupron, Zytiga, and Prednisone. Thanks again for posting! Long Live Us!
