New here. Primary caregiver for my 98 year old dad who has stage-4 prostate cancer diagnosed 3/9/22. He started lupron, and completed radiation treatment this past week. I am caring for him in his home, and started hospice care several days ago.
I liked our hospice intake nurse that assessed my dad. She recommended Gerson therapy. I had mentioned to her that I had prostate cancer in 2015, then prostatectomy...biochemical recurrence and radiation in late 2017. So far PSA has been undetectable. She suggested to me that it could still be there and that I do Gerson therapy for 2 years. Even told me what juicer to get (Angel is less expensive than Pure and just fine she said). I did a little research and decided to get an Omega VSJ843QS juicer.
Anyone here into juicing? (I don't know what I did to italicize)

Don't worry. I wouldn't subject my dad to any enema, unless he is severely constipated, and required one approved by traditional Western medicine. I'm on board with juicing though. He will be getting "normal" food that he enjoys, and have that supplemented with carrot juice. I'll read the book to see what it says, but I can tell you right now, there will be no coffee enemas for my dad, and he won't be going to Mexico to get "official" Gerson treatment.
Right now, we will be having a hospice nurse visit us at home once a week. I never want my dad to have to live in a facility. If I have to hire a helper or home aide that is not covered by hospice care, I would do that.
Watch out for the carrot juice - it can be very addictive. Decades ago, my wife & I got hooked. But at "189 calories in 2 cups of Carrot Juice" it isn't an innocent "supplement".
So we entered a twelve-step program (just kidding) & the juicer is wherever the fondue pot went.
Straight carrot juice spikes the blood sugar . When it comes to carrots you are better off using a blender bc the fiber makes it so there's no jump and this fall on blood sugar .
This is a direct quote from Cancer Research UK, a science based site..."There is no scientific evidence that it, (Gerson Therapy,) can treat cancer or its symptoms. It began as a treatment for migraines and was then begun for people with Tuberculosis and of course, Cancer.
Also your Dad is 98 years old and I'm wildly presuming that if you are starting this now, your Dad hasn't done this therapy before. My opinion is, that if I survive to that age, I would go on the single malt, Cuban cigar and Borscht diet.
IMO, its shame on a Registered Nurse for recommending a non scientifically reviewed program for your father, so that at the end of his life he has nothing more than juice to look forward to. Everything should be geared to quality of life, attempting to remove all pain and everything that he consumes orally should bring him nothing but pleasure.
Didn't he mention using juice for himself for pca that he is in remission from . I firmly disagree with you . Juicing is good esp for the caretaker who needs energy. He's not just giving his dad juice. I'm very sure if his dad doesn't want juice he's not forcing anything just offering bc for some it can help pain and help the system so less burden on the body. Very negative inna space that I believes deserves some positive vibes but I do respect your opinion ..peace and good health xo
Hey sorry to hear your position, I was there two years ago and lost my dad, so I did some research to see about it for myself and my research came out different from the pharmaceutical view point, including my naturopathic dr who claims they have a 56% rate of success which is the same as the medical industry here in England, but ! The Gerson therapy isn’t about just drinking juices ! If your not going to do the complete therapy then you can’t expect to get results, it does also require coffee enemas and other things, you have to do all of it ! The best place would be at the clinic but there expensive, I would think you might be able to work through them somehow and do it at home, or they have books out to read how to do it properly, but also what I’ve also seen is younger people doing it cos it’s full on, he would have to be dedicated. sorry but is your dad of 98 physically able to do the therapy if he’s having hospice care, I tried the same as you to get my dad to drink juices to help him cos I’d learnt so much trying to save myself, it was sad cos he’d just reached the end, think when ya look back, would you rather be spending precious time with your dad or would rather be driving to shops and spending time stood in a kitchen juicing vegetables and reading books, just a thought, may peace be with you in whatever you choose 😔
Sorry guys, but I misunderstood the nurse that suggested the Gerson method. She was suggesting it for me, and not my dad. When she came back the second time and I was updating her about my dad, she mentioned carrot juice and I interpreted that to be for my dad. So my bad. Anyway, the juicer was delivered late yesterday, and I made my first carrot juice today. It is too delicious. I am afraid that I will soon be addicted to the stuff, and developing an orange complexion. I gave my dad some of the juice, and he liked it too. Today he just had apple sauce with him pain meds crushed into it, and some of the carrot juice. He just sleeps all the time.
I juice for my husband and I all the time! I see many people are assuming it tastes terrible … so wrong, don’t knock it till you try it! A beautiful fresh pineapple, organic carrots and organic celery. Believe me, there is no better way to get nutritious good food down. I see my husband has trouble eating big meals, nothing seems to taste good, so what do we do now, it’s broccoli sprouts and juicing for us… yummy and so nutritious. He thinks the broccoli sprouts taste good too, again, all of this can’t hurt and can only help. The story of the 98 year old dad just touched me, amazing beautiful daughter… nothing is easy any more but just trying the best we can❤️Is our only choice.
Glad that you are enjoying your juicer, Miomarrito. What kind did you get? And how long have you been juicing? Do you grow your broccoli sprouts? I would, but then I like growing things.
well said. We also enjoy drinking juices. We use the nutra bullet. We have the book juicing for life by Cherie Calbom. one that we enjoy is similar to yours
. Handful of parsley, 5 carrots, greens removed, some celery and an apple, seeds removed. I take it one day at a time and if this makes any sense, I’m glad to lay my head on my pillow each night in hopes of some kind of peace 💜💜💜
I don't have cancer but I've been familiar with gerson for 20 years . I have a host of illnesses and the best years of my life I juiced 2 x a day so yes it's cell food and I have no doubt it helps the mitochondria and immune system bc I also did not take one antibiotic in those years. Go for it .
