Treatment Changes and Good Results

I’ve had a few changes to my treatment since starting in December. As we thought might happen, abiraterone didn’t play well with my liver, even at reduced doses. So, I stopped taking it and, after waiting a couple of weeks for my liver function numbers to return to normal, started on Xtandi in mid January. This week I had a CT scan, bone scan and blood work to check on progress and all results were positive. The lung nodules that had uptake in my last Pylarify scan had shrunk, the lymph nodes that had uptake in the scan were calcified, the spot on my rib that had uptake showed no sign of activity and there were no new metastases seen anywhere. My PSA has gone from 5.25 last October to <0.01 today and all other blood work is normal. So far the side effects of the Lupron/Xtandi combination aren’t too bad—mainly manageable hot flashes and some fatigue. We’re very pleased so far. I see my MO next week for a check and to get the next 3 month shot of Lupron but don’t expect any changes from that appointment.

Always glad to hear of good response shown thru PSA and especially imagining.Way to go. Glad Xtandi was an option when Zytiga caused liver issues. Great!

Since I am on Lupron and Nubeqa can't exactly say much other than add in my case literally no issues other than low energy. That I offset with some caffeine, exercise, and splitting time between doing things and resting.

My psa is undetectable for the last 6 months.

Stay positive, love your family & friends. Live life fully.

Be Well!

Hey J. Found your post while searching Lupron and Xtandi. Wanted to see how you’re tolerating the combo. I’ve been on Firmagon and recently changed to new oncologist who is switching me to Lupron end of this month. He also started me on Xtandi two weeks ago. My last PSA was 10.3 so hoping this new regimen does the trick. Will find out in a couple of weeks. Thanks for any input.

Hello! I seem to be tolerating it pretty well. Some fatigue, hot flashes and maybe some minor skin reactions (rash just started happening so who knows if it’s related), but, as of my last blood work on May 17th, my PSA continues to be undetectable. I take the Xtandi in the evening about an hour before bed which may help with the fatigue. I take it sometimes with food and sometimes without—haven’t noticed any difference in how I feel. I haven’t had any of the serious side effects at all. Good luck!John
