High testosterone treatment

Oncologist is ready to give injection of testosterone. I have been off ADT now for 12 months. Testosterone is 10 up from 4 in last two weeks, PSA is < 0.08 two weeks ago. I am 80 years old and have been fighting this now starting in 1999,

My concern is if I do not do well on this and my PSA rises so much to stop any more T will I have a hard time when going back on ADT getting the cancer under control. ONCO not doing BAT just straight T.

I really having a hard time deciding doing Lupron again as I really feeling good.

What else can I do instead of Lupron ?

Thanks. My thoughts are when is it a good time to do high T ?Now or when PSA rises and at what number to go on Vantas. It is sad to think the only option is ADT.

in reply to totom

Truthfully , Sir? If I had visible signs of pc on any scans I personally wouldn’t do high t.,Your life . Each to their own. I wish you success! 👍

You can do Orgovyx, Firmagon or Casodex. Casodex is not as effective. If your cancer progresses, you will feel worse, much worse.

i can ask the doctor if it is ok with me passing on its name. Doctor might not want all the calls and more business.

I don't get it!You wrote that you are feeling good, so why would you take chances taking T?

And exercise like your life depends on it.

totom in reply to NotDFL

PSA is < 0.08. PSMA scan still shows cancer. Do not want to wait for the demon to come back and be harder to kill it. Nip it in the bud.

You confuse me; you wrote "Oncologist is ready to give injection of testosterone"

totom profile image
totom in reply to NotDFL

I am second guessing doing it for fear of the unknown.

It will return. High T may get me into long term remission without the down mental low energy of ADT.

I,too, have been on ADT, Zolodex, and recently Zytiga. I wouldn't dream of getting a T injection. My MO told me those who have a holiday off ADT don't do as well who stay on it for life.

Vantas is to lower T, correct? an acceptable alternative to Lupron, or not?

Were the Vantas implants discontinued? healthunlocked.com/advanced...

Please elaborate, your 80, been fighting PC seemingly successfully for 22 years. You came off ADT 12 months ago. Why? How long were you recently on ADT. First line ADT only it seems?

A testosterone of 4 is nothing, then up 10 to 14, still nothing.

You feel good. You don't seem to mind ADT?

Is you doctor going to inject testosterone to get you back to a normal T for you, after all this time do you know what a normal T for you would be? 400+?

Or is your doctor planning to elevate your T permanently to a super high level of say 1500?

I for example had my T rise recently from the 10/15 range to 84 in less than 2 months then to 246 in another 1 months. After being on ADT for 2 years. Rise still ongoing.

Strength and endurance coming back, notice women again, going through pubity all over again with some acne again. May be getting toward end of hot flashes, can think again. "Parts" getting bigger again. So I know why I prefer to be off ADT while we determine what effect salvage radiation had.

But you seemed to be winning and satisfied on ADT?

I hate ADT... T injection will be the 2k to 3k dose.

Ask about estradiol . Lots of guys here are using it.

If my PSA continues to rise and I need more ADT, I'll be using high-does transdermal estradiol. Causes castrate T levels, but the estrogen prevents most of the SEs.

lewicki profile image

I should look into that.

Horse12888 profile image
Horse12888 in reply to lewicki

As far as I can see, it's a godsend. Achieves superior castration with no real SEs, other than gynocomastia, which won't bother me.

I was living in terror until this came along.

My oncologist felt fine about giving me T but after 18 months of ADT it came up to 450 on its own. I'd get all of the T I could get from him to feel better.

And no cancer. Wonderful.

Totom, Just like Nalakrats said, boy I wish I can find a Dr like yours. You are going to feel so much better than on ADT, at least that is the theory.

Yes. Tough decision.

Am I reading this correctly, you are currently on Vantas? I thought you were off the T suppressing meds?

Go for it !Under an oncos supervision . I just hope that it’s not your last hurrah! But at 80 follow your heart. I’m 60 with 6 yrs in . No PSA or signs of pc . I’m still taking a defunct pill form adt each day. I’d love to toss it .doc says” Are you crazy”? My friend is your age with pc and he says to me go for Quality not quantity. “! But easy to say he’s already had some quantity . At 80 I might take a chance . At 60 I’ll trudge on until I can’t take it no more. I’ll be following your progress. I’m routing for you to feel better ? Good luck scott

At 80 you want to live to at least 90.

in reply to lewicki

Like they say “ the only one that wants to live until 100 is a 99 yr old .

in reply to lewicki

✌️🤞

I do read carefully what you write. That is why I asked the question. It was my understanding you were not on any T suppressing meds. You were monitoring psa closely for it to rise above 0.03. Psa <0.04 is not above 0.03.I must have missed your post where you officially went above 0.03.

How many months were you on ADT this time?

But not an approved ADT treatment re Medicare?

How long was the implant in you? Is there only one dosage size of vantas ?I am thinking to go on it instead of high T at this time . Doing so now will keep the cancer in control.

NPR reported that the $4800 Vantas implant has been discontinued as the Mfg. prefers to sell the $48,000 new version of the implant. All hail Drug companies.
