So it's finally happening. Tues and Wed 10/19 & 10/20 After endless delays, Jim finally gets his radiation treatment. Such a relief that it will be Dr Peter Carroll doing the surgical portion. Anxiety is high, but that helps a lot.
Also Jim's latest PSA went to ultrasensitive test and is 0.04
Thanks everyone for listening

Well the procedure went well. Getting him home has hit complications. It appears he has a blood clot in his leg. they are sending him to ultrasound and he can't go home today. so, quite unexpected.
Yup. At our age, we have an instinct for good character. Many good Dr’s. have terrible bedside manners yet you can feel their knowledge and experience quickly. Also, never be timid to ask “how many of these procedures have you completed.”They will often add their success rate.
Good wishes to you. I live in the East Bay. Have my great local MO and another great one at UCSF. I was part of the PSMA GA68 scan trial with Dr Hope 3 years ago today. When no scan could find why my PSA was rising this "new" scan did. It was metastasis to my lungs.I am a true believer in UCSF.
My PSA since that scan has never risen again. Hit hard with ADT for 2 years I've been less <.014 for that duration . On ADT vacation for a year its remained the same. In fact last month<.006 . You both are in a great hospital with incredible doctors.
He's been around quite a while and done a lot of very important things both in the operating room and as a researcher. Evidently he continues to be very interested in the newest, in the state-of-the-art, in the best ways of making a difference in such a quickly-changing field. The best academics are that way, and I hope he goes on forever.
Relax, it will be fine, it's more like going in for a colonoscopy than it is for surgery. Post-procedure there will be some burning on the first urination, other than that, it should be a relatively pain-free process. Some Depend diapers are good to wear the first few days as there will some light oozing around the perineum. Good luck-- Tim
Thank you. It seems the hardest part may be spending the night with those tubes in and having to stay lying down. hopefully he gets plenty of good drugs.
I took 10mg of Lorazapan, a low-level Valium, and it helped me stay calm through the whole procedure. I did get a little restless laying still during the scans and the radiation procedure.
