Eligard injection

My hubby got his first Eligard injection in May of this year and it was given in his arm. I’ve read that’s it’s usually injected in abdomen or buttocks. Is anyone else getting this injection and where do you receive it. I’m going to question his doctor/nurse before his next injection that is scheduled for Nov.

For us it's always the right or left side of the abdomen.

Why does it matter? Was it too painful?

No, we just wanted to make sure that getting it in the arm was acceptable.I visited the Eligard website and they do show the arm as an acceptable injection site.

I got my lupron implants in the buttocks … when Lupron got scarce my docs changed me to eligard. I get my eligard injections in the fat under my upper arm. I switch from arm to arm alternating sites. The injection burns like hades for a while after …. And it leaves a bump at the injection site. Sometimes my arm in the vicinity of the injection is tender. It been no biggie for me, considering how important the drug is in my life.

Ive heard the abdomen is the most uncomfortable.

❤️❤️❤️

Abdomen is a breeze, better than lupron in the butt.

I have so many pickle sized tumors pressing out of my abdomen, sticking a needle in there would be a bit iffy. Yayahahahaya yayahahahaya. It’s not an option for an injection site for me. Hope I never need a rabies shot. 😂😂😂😂

i've had it in the arm. I was told I got Lupron actually but when I recently got a 3 month in the buttock, the nurse said it had to have been Elligard since that is the only one that can be given in the arm. I question whether it matters

I get mine in the buttocks every 6 months. Do not like the belly. Never offered in the arm. Good luck!

I received all of my 3 mo Eligard injections in my arms...I say arms because I alternated arms for each injection. I never had any issues. To each their own.

Thx for your reply. I just visited the Eligard site and arms is shown as one of the injection sites, so that makes me feel better. Best wishes to u.

I would hit the gym many times right after my injection..that's how little the injection bothered me. I recommend doing some exercise that involves your arms about 60 min after...it'll really clear up any residual discomfort.

I had all of my Lupron (7) and Eligard (1) in alternating butt cheeks. No problems with any other than discomfort the first night.

My exact same numbers too. Except Lupron always gave me a 24-36 hour "flu". Eligard did not.

I have gotten it in the abdomen, leaves a lump for3 months, does not hurt that much, given a choice of in the arm but not the butt area. Used to get lupron in the butt, but was sore for a couple of days, eligard is much better and not sore for days .

I had it about two years ago in the abdomen. The hot flashes and flushing were horrible. My doctor gave me Androcur (in pill form) once an day and it killed the hot flashes and flushing.

They offered me the choice of abdomen or butt. I have had two shots so far. The first time the nurse filled a rubber glove with ice and had me hold it to my abdomen for a while. She put the shot there and it wasn't bad. The next time no ice was used and it hurt like hell. I will be asking for ice pre-treatment next time.

Have had injections in both the arms and buttocks. Either are acceptable.

before last injection my hubby had, the nurse gave him an icepack to put on area of belly where injection would be---he hardly felt the injection--ask for an icepack about 5 min or more prior to needle!!

Almost 2 years every 3 months in the back of my arms. A small knot that goes away right before the next injection. Sometimes it will sting for a few minutes.

Thx for your reply. That’s where my hubby got his first injection. Due to get his second on in November. Wishing you the best on your journey.

For most of us, any of the possible locations are fine and not a problem.

Much more importantly, I hope your medical team has explained the Eligard side effects in detail, for these are likely to be a challenge. Less food and much more exercise are essential.

Eligard is very effective at controlling cancer, but it is hard on the body. Too often this is not properly addressed by doctors in advance. Be sure to educate yourself on this matter!

Got mine in the abdomen. It was pretty painless for me. Weight training is critical as a countermeasure to muscle loss and fatigue. That, along with a script for Effexor to offset hot flashes, has made ADT very tolerable for me.

I've been getting Eligard injection every six months going on four years now and have always received them in my lower portion of the abdomen. No pain just a little sore the next day for a few hours then nothing.

Received my shots in my left arm. It only hurts if you push on that spot but only for a few days. No problem

That's interesting because I usually get Eligard injection in butt, but this time they suggested my arm. My opinion is that it probably makes no difference.

I received a series of 6 90 day eligard injections. Given at a local oncology center. All in the arm. I alternated arms each time. I'm 1 month past the last injection. I feel lousy can't wait to get past it
