I’ve mentioned before how much I love my Jeff’s radiation oncologist, Dr. Shumway. He has an impeccable bedside manner and I have always felt he genuinely cares. I truly can’t say enough positive things about him and I’m so grateful he has been a part of Jeff’s care team.
Dr. Shumway personally called Jeff to wish him well and to sing praises of the radiation oncologist Jeff was referred to for his brain tumors. Jeff’s new radiation oncologist specializes in treating brain cancer and Dr. Shumway implied she’s “the best”. Suffice it to say, we both feel Jeff is receiving phenomenal care and attention.
Jeff was also contacted by his new radiation oncologist. She is concerned that if Jeff waits for surgery, that the tumors may continue to grow and have the propensity to cause irreversible brain damage.
After consulting with radiation oncology and Jeff’s neurosurgeon team, it has been decided that Jeff will undergo brain surgery on September 9th.

I just had to reply although I have learnt from this amazing group that every warrior's cancer journey is very different. As a family our lives changed forever almost 6 years ago when our Dad was 84 years old. We were told Dad had a brain tumour and 3 more smaller mets to his brain. Prostate Cancer. Very rare. Dad had a crainiotomy. Tumour was removed. He recovered very well. Then stereotactic radiation to all mets in his brain. He had Chemo and Zytiga has just started to lose its effect after 3 years. Dad has no bone mets but he does have mets to both adrenal glands which again is very rare. The mets in Dad's brain did show some activity last year and a new met was discovered which again was radiated. From a PSMA pet scan Dad had done recently he has a met in his brain that is showing some activity plus all the other areas I have mentioned above. He has no pain but is exhausted all the time.. but at 89 I guess that is to be expected. Anything to do with the brain is very scary but it sounds like Jeff is in good hands. There is always hope and my Dad is proof of that. He will be 90 in January. A true warrior and our hero.....love and strength to you and your Jeff. 💞
Seems like nothing is fast in the medical/insurance industry. At least its scheduled and I think if he has increasing effects they could move it up. Good luck to you both.
Diagnosed with brain mets on 8-7, surgery was originally scheduled for 9-24. Yikes.
Fortunately, to date, Jeff isn’t experiencing any side effects. Additionally, the biggest tumor is on the dura and pressing into his brain. Due to minimal swelling/fluid around the tumor, the neurosurgeon feels like that, currently, the tumor isn’t stuck to his brain. Fingers crossed that it stays that could potentially cause complications.
Although scary, it’s definitely a win that surgery has been moved up. ❤️
I believe that a proactive medical team is best and you apparently have a great , integrative team. And your beloved Jeff has a great, loving advocate and encourager in YOU! Having rehabilitated many patients post brain surgery at NYU in the early 80’s (as a physical therapist) just know there will be an initial recovery phase post op that will pass(so don’t get discouraged) and then restoration of function will begin and can often be quite remarkable. My wife and I are, and will continue to pray for Jeff, his surgeon, and care team, and of course for you and your family to our supernatural physician for His grace, peace and healing hands of mercy.
Jeff & Team,Best of luck. You have done what you can do. You are surrounded by experts, now fasten your seatbelts, and meditate on healing. The mind can heal the body. Heal this body. In with the good air, out with the bad. Wake up mind and heal this body. Our best to you both on September 9th. Ninth month, ninth day. Nine is your lucky number.
