Docetaxel

My husband had his first round of Docetaxel on Tuesday last week it really knocked the sails out of him. He went for a follow up appt today. The Oncologist said they gave him a dose of 75 next time he will do 60. Any of you know the normal standard dose of chemo? He can’t pass gas he is bloated he his not emptying out all the way. He feels miserable. Any of you experience this? And again what dosage of chemo is standard?

Normal docetaxel dose is 75 mg per square meter of body surface area. I've seen it taken down to 60 in combinations or when 75 is not well tolerated.

Will it be a lot less effective?

Let's hope not.

When you say you’ve seen it taken down to 60 in combination. In combination with what?

As with Xofigo, for example. When patients get chemo cocktails they often get reduced amounts of each component.

The same thing happened to me. Bloating and Constipation. Must drink enormous amounts of water and start taking Mira lax daily and regularity should return.

Good luck...

I experienced a similar situation where after a 2nd session out of 6 with Doxetaxel my body could not take any more due to pain, so they immediately changed to ADT (zoladex) and have continued with 12 weekly sessions, lately changing to Zolacos
