From May through July 2020, I had 35 sessions of adjuvant IMRT (RP was in fall 2019). My RO told me to expect rectal bleeding after about 18 months. Since my last RO visit 3 months ago, I've been experiencing bleeding off/on, some fairly heavy, during bowel movements.
Can anyone give advice or insight from their experience on how long I can expect this to last? Thank you.

Radiation irritates blood vessels in the rectum. In my case, there were internal hemorrhoids that burst whenever I strained too much. I went to a proctologist who treated my internal hemorrhoids and I haven't had any bleeding since.
Hmm... I had HDR Brachy 4/19, followed by 25 days of IMRT 7/19 at MSK.
I was born with an anal fissure and had periodic episodes of bright red rectal bleeding all of my adult life and it was never a concern.
Prior to IMRT my RO suggested that I take Metamucil to help with potential episodes of diarrhea and I did.
Bottom line: No diarrhea and ever since, no rectal bleeding!!
Every morning I take 5 capsules and the next day, I can time an effortless BM within half an hour after awakening. Fully evacuated, shower and I'm set for the day!!😃
I am currently trying to find a solution to my bleeding problems. I have tried suppositories, Mesalamine and hydrocortisone. Two rounds of Argon plasma gas and 40 sessions in a hyperbaric oxygen chamber. All treatments have failed but are options you and your Drs might consider. I’m scheduled to try Argon treatment again🙏Keep fighting DJBUNK. I would love to hear how your situation unfolds..
Thanks to everyone for your replies. I appreciate the suggestions and advice. I have an appointment with my MO and RO this week and next where I will bring up the bleeding.
