Bacterial Prostatitis is treated with Doxycycline 100 mg 2 times a day for 7 to 10 days. By the way, Doxycycline is also a re-proposed drug as it tends to slow grow of prostate cancer by blocking a pathway. It is one of the 4 drugs prescribed in Care Oncology protocol for prostate cancer.

Yes, and any inflammation or irritation of the prostate or the prostate bed will cause a temporary increase in PSA.

In fact, I think incidence is directly related to transrectal biopsies - but that is just a hunch. There are no good drugs to treat prostatitis. Antibiotics don't work and the AUA strongly recommends against using them. It is treated symptomatically (if there are symptoms). If you have pelvic pain, Elavil, a tricyclic antidepressant, may bring some relief. It is often relapsing and remitting - it will go away and come back on its own no matter what you do.
