What could cause this rash?

I doubled the dose of abiraterone to 1000-mg early Sunday morning and woke up to this on my right arm. Tap on photo to see full extent of the rash. Doubled prednisone to 5-mg. starting Sunday as well.

By Monday it had spread to the left side of my face and the top of both legs.

Waiting on a call from my urologic oncologist. In the meantime started high-dose prednisone last night after visit to urgent care. No improvement thus far.

Has anyone else on the forum experienced such a dramatic turn of events?

I had a rash what I believe was from the generic zytiga. The rash was itchy then bubbled like a burn and then when the water broke it was very very painful like a true burn. It broke out on my torso and buttocks. I still have some skin discoloration. It took months for the dermatologist to treat it correctly after steroid shots, biopsies, lots of bandages. It was resolved with daily doses of 60 mg of prednisone for about a month. Good luck!

FYI I am using the brand name Zytiga.

Get someone to prescribe the 60mg of prednisone you will feel great and it should resolve the rash before it blows up.

I did so, thanks. 60 mg yesterday followed by 4 days at 40-mg. No change yet.

Thanks for replying. This is maddening and I do not want to stop taking my trial drugs.

Hey tallguy2. That’s an ugly and maybe even painful rash. I ve had them also . This is worse than mine . I’m on a different drug that most. It’s adt just the same . I hope you can find a fix in short order . I thought my rash was due to prolia. The NP told me to take Zyrtec or alegra. I did Zyrtec helped me. Please post a post rash pic once gone? Take care

My rash was multi phased. Itchy, blisters,raw skin and scabs that burned, healing, then scarring of healed skin. Truly terrible. Multi legions on torso at different stages. Dermatologist said could be drug induced lupus. So glad prednisone cleared it up.

My PSA had stabilized at 0.5 for the last three months. The intent is to drop the PSA back down to 0.3 and possibly shrink lymph node mets prior to the July CT scan.

Urologic oncologist has me staying the course with abiraterone and the additional prednisone ordered by the urgent care physician. More by the end of the week.

It will be a good day once you don’t have this rash or need a urologist anymore. I haven’t seen my uro in 5 yrs. TG

I haven't seen mine since he handed me off to my MO. He had great bed side manner, so won't have any trouble going back if I need something.

Mine was brutally honest and wrong about me surviving . They let me fall into k failure awaiting a biopsy . It was malpractice . A few years after I became clear I went and told them to thank the dr .. He ‘d rather forget about me . I feel the same . A urologist deals in misery . Not a job for the meek .

Yes I am. Approximately 8% get this rash.

When I started Zytiga and Prednisone 5 1/2 years ago had a severe rash in left arm pit. Disappeared after about a week. Been fine since.

I got a rash like that from cassodex while on Zytiga. Are you also taking cassodex?

BTW the rash is nearly gone after a weeks worth of prednisone.

Sharing an update that the rash returned yesterday so I am back on another 5 day course of prednisone. My oncologist wants me to continue with the 1000-mg/day of abiraterone.
