High-Risk Localized Prostate Cancer: Changing the Rules

An good article discussing recent results of using AR targeting drugs like apalutamide with ADT before surgery, continuing for a year after. "Not in all men, but in about 20% the tumor was dead or necrotic." This was before surgery. Worth a read.

When I met with the head of Urology at the Cleveland Clinic in 2018, he was very excited about the results from similar(perhaps the same) trials and I was evaluated for participation. Unfortunately, I had the wrong genetic makeup for their trial. Later, I asked a Medical Oncologist at Sloan Kettering in NYC why they didn't prescribe Lupron before surgery as they so often do prior to radiation. He said they had tried that years earlier and even if the tumor shrank, there was no benefit in long term survival.

These new studies seem to have really positive implications.

Just be grateful! Lupron is not fun. I have been on it continuously for 21 years. I have to use the Ladies restroom!
