Back pain from Firmagon?

Hello!

My father has gotten terrible back pain, to the point that he is almost not getting out of bed. He says that it is worse when he rises, but has gotten gradually worse over the last four weeks. Of course we are going to do scans to see it is has anything to do with the cancer, but I also wondered if it could be an effect of Firmagon? He says that he feels "100 years old" when he tries to get up from a chair. He is 69 years old, I should add.

Here's to hoping this is "only" Firmagon, or him becoming a little old and stiff.

Has he seen an orthopedist?

No not yet, but he is going to talk to his oncologist on Tuesday. Maybe I should convince him of calling a orthopedist too. It's so easy to only think about the cancer part ("is it the cancer? is it the cancer??"-track going through my head if he so much as looks a little pale) so not a bad idea, thank you!

This pain is usually caused by bone metastases. But Firmagon should still work and avoid this. If he does not get out of bed because of pain, this is a very bad sign.

If he still have Firmagon in his body, and latest PSA a month ago was undetectable (although he is doing a new test Monday), could it still be new mets?

This means Firmagon still works and he is not resistant. Therefore there will be no new mets. But prostate cancer patients should exercise and not stay in bed because of pain. As Allen said, see an orthopedist.

I will advise him to do that, thank you!

I can only relate to my own experience with back pain & getting out of bed in the morning was the worse part of the day & I do not take firmagon yet anyway. It is in my opinion a result of getting old naturally & the simple fact that we do less.

My gym trainer started me doing dead lifts once a week when I went to the gym & the back pain was less & less.

Hope that helps, use it or lose it they say.

Look at triumphfound.org to see if he can qualify for their free strength building program. I'm a graduate. It did wonders for me.Consider CBD oil added as a pain and inflammation defense. Really helpful for ME.

I do not know how long it takes for the CBD to act.So far, I have taken 20mg/TID of CBD for a month now and no result.

I was prescribed THC also but I take only 20mg/HS.

I used to be on Fentanyl 87 mcg/hr and My GP stopped my Fentanyl patches and replaced it with Hydromorphone 2mg/q 4hr and Hydromorphone Continuous 12mg/q12hr.

In MY case I started with dose every 6hrs back in 2018. About 200-400mg per day total. I believe some noticed relief with first dose. Better as some built up in system. Cut MY pain by 70%. Your mileage may vary. Now on "maintenance" dose of only 40mg per day.

I later added 5mg THC lozenges dosed as needed which seemed to be only thing that helped head.

I feel that it helps with inflammation and allows ME better sleep. I never suggest replacing any SOC treatments, just an add on.

MY result was a cutting back on opoids from a dozen or more that didn't appear to help much down to 2 a day. For me a benefit.

I'm not sure I like the sound of doing "dead lifts' once a week or any time....

Better to lift the dead weights than to lay down with it.

You have a valid point there... I can't weight till I tell my ex-wife, the dumbell, for years she's been wanting me to lay down under them.....

My dad has been getting those injections for 7 years and every 3 months when he receives it he complains of low back pain from the injection site! We have been to a orthopedic doctor and they can’t find anything wrong other than normal arthritis at his age so I don’t know but it happens every 3 months after the injection

There are a number of drugs have the same functions : Lupron, Zoladex, Zeulide.

Firmagon is strong stuff.. hope is that the pain is from the firmagon not mets . Don’t predict anything . I felt the same way at 53 . Like I was 101.. try to cheer him up any way possible.

I was on Firmagon for a month and then switched to Elligard every 6 monthsI had muscle pain also when I initially received the shot. Maybe they shoukd switch him to a shot every 3 or 6 months on a different drug.
