Does green tea possibly improve endothelial function?

This meta of RCTs was aimed at people at risk for CVD.

I have been drinking green tea for decades. I just had triple bypass surgery.

Magnus...But you have also been on Lupron ADT for decades. Lupron/Firmagon/Eligard does increase risk of heart disease significantly.

Actually I not been on any of those. I have been on casodex, zytiga, and xtandi. Any you are correct. Those ADT drugs do cause heart problems.

So you were never been on lupron type drugs ? Thats interesting. And you have lived with Advanced PCa for over 28 years without Lupron type drugs ?

I had an orchiectomy so Lupron etc were never an option.

OK. Now it all makes sense. Thanks for clarification.

Isn't probably the lack of T that is the villain...not the drugs per se. Assume physical castration has same or similar CVD risk?? Open to clarification..have done no specific research.

The lack of T is a big one.

So sides with estrogen patches or Lupron are gone (worse with high estrogen). Loss of muscle, sex drive, possible fat gain (I lost fat but that was because I reduced calories as needed).

But it is the lack of E that drives your bone mass down. So that is specific to Lupron.

Also specific to Lupron is depression. I don't know why. I don't know if it interferes with neurotransmitters or perhaps depression can result from lack of E in addition to T? I know that mentally I felt great on the E.

Exogenous parental E slight increases cardiac risk for a year or so and then becomes cardio protective. I only did the E for 6 months but when I started I didn't know how long I would be on it.

I don't know how well the estrogen patches work for everyone. Apparently 5ARI's can make the exogenous E less effective. That's the opposite of what I'd expect but that has been found in research and practice.

I added Zytiga. I don't know if it helped. It seems like it could. But I added it after my T was zero (actually 12 hours before I had a blood test but it takes more than 12 hours to start working).

Cardiac death is a huge killer of PCa patients. So, reducing the risk a little is good.

Thats why we need regular exercise, very low cholesterol , normal Blood pressure. Atorvastatin not only reduces heart disease, it also helps slows prostate cancer progression.

I read in the European oncology forum, that some patients on hormone therapy take Q10 pills to protect their hearts. What do you think about it?

in reply todonits

Possibly: ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articl...

However, an RCT for statin-induced muscle pain came up negative: clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show...

It's possible that CoQ10 increases heart rate variability (HRV) in some patients (in general the higher the HRV the better): clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show...

But I'd take these results with a grain of salt. Before jumping at it I'd find out what the normal heart rate variability fluctuation is? (mine, for example, goes from about 22 ms to 41 ms in just a few days without any diet/exercise/nutrient changes)

This could be easily answered by running this trial a few more times and seeing how the results change.

Even in USA, many cardiologists recommend daily CoQ10 tablet for heart health. CoQ10 is an enzyme which becomes less as we age just like Melatonin does.

However, another more effective way to prevent heart attacks is to keep C Reactive Protein level as low as possible, ideally less than 0.2.

We have to keep in mind ABCDE of heart disease...A=Aspirin (81 mg), B= Blood Pressure ,(less than 130/90) C= Cholesterol (less than 180) D= Diet (Low calorie, Plant based ), and E= Exercise (both Aerobic and Anaerobic).
