NCT 04597359

To see if it slows down cancer.

Is it using concentrate or just a cup of tea.

Looks like this may be added to daily intake.

I gave up on green tea when it appeared that one needed to drink a dozen cups every day to get any protective effect. I was actually taking 2 of the LEF caps each morning - equivalent to 12 cups. Too much for my liver, so I stopped.

The trial is relying on Ki-67 rather than PSA. Camellia sinensis (in any form) has never been shown to have more than a modest effect, at best, on PSA. Ki-67 is a specific marker of cell division. Very useful in those short-term pre-RP intervention studies, where one can compare cells from the removed prostate to those in the recent biopsy. One needs access to cancer cells to measure Ki-67, however.

Here is a study from 2015:

Randomized Clinical Trial of Brewed Green and Black Tea in Men with Prostate Cancer Prior to Prostatectomy

"There were no significant differences in RP staining for proliferation (Ki67), apoptosis (TUNEL, Bcl-2, Bax) or oxidative DNA damage (8OhdG) comparing GT and BT to control (Figure 1).

"Nuclear NFκB staining in malignant prostate tissue from men in the GT group (p=0.013) was significantly lower compared to control whereas there was no significant difference when comparing BT (p=0.931) to control"

So, no effect on Ki-67, but green tea lowered NF-kB (black tea did not).

Reducing NF-kB is a major reason why I use natural polyphenols. There are many to choose from.

I have been drinking 5 mugs Japanese green tea per day for 25 years, no sugar no milk. It is an acquired taste. I don't claim it to be cure but I feel like it is one more thing I do for myself.

Hello Magnus, What type of green tea do you drink? Sencha from the leaves only or Kukicha from stems & leaves.Friend of mine drinks nothing but green tea & is free of PC after having his prostrate removed. He is just lucky I think & got it at the right time.

I thought I might give it a try & it cant make things worse Im sure.

Hi Magnus,

I somehow got on the mailing list of Upton Tea Imports a few years ago. The latest quarterly newsletter is a crazy 56 page thing with countless offerings. Fortunately, one can order samples & my order, which I will phone-in tomorrow, already includes 10 samples.

But nothing so far from Japan, although I do enjoy sencha.

The Japanese section is only 2 pages - 17 teas, 3 of them powdered. The staff favorite (sencha special grade yamamoto) has 6 options ranging from a $3.25 sample to $113.50 for a kg. "brighter flavor & smoother finish" than "basic sencha".

I'm going to add a few samples from the Japanese section because of this thread.

My attitude towards tea, as with single malt whisky, is to drink what I really like, rather than taking it as medicine.

On the other hand, one must pay attention to those coming up to 30 years since diagnosis!

I buy my Japanese green tea from Amazon by the case. I have tried Macha green tea, I do like it also.

I think I’d consider matcha teas as opposed to sencha. I believe I read sometime back that matcha teas are more concentrated.

I too have been drinking green tea for 6 years now . However having read over the years various articles of differing quality I changed to matcha green tea . Far more powerful than leaf tea as you drink the powder rather than the infusion .I do also take a supplement pro-phenol which has green tea powder in it (as well as a few other bits).

Like all these things , no one actually knows if it does YOU any good but for ME I feel like I am doing something and am still here 7 years on after a 2 year prognosis T4N1M1a so why stop eh?

The major polyphenol in green tea is epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG). It is not only a strong antioxidant, but a powerful zinc ionophore. So activity against PCa (if any) or COVID is greatly enhanced by talking Zn as a supplement along with your green tea.

Knowing the various opinions re: green tea, I continue to use it and like Irun, I *feel* it is doing me good, so I'll continue.
