Hi All! I’m just wondering if there is anything else my fathers onc could/should be doing to lower his PSA levels. Just a quick update he is stage 4 metastatic through thoracic and upper parts of lower extremities. Last week he received 5 sessions of radiation on his right thigh area. He just had his 6th session of chemo but since he’s started his PSA has gone up. He is in the 700’s According to the oncologist as long as it’s not significantly increasing each time he’s ok with it. His ct scan report says that the metastasis has mostly remained the same or slightly gotten better. Not sure how long he is to continue chemo but shouldn’t it be lowering?? His side effects of chemo are not too bad. TIA for at input
Rising PSA but scan ok. : Hi All! I’m... - Advanced Prostate...
Rising PSA but scan ok.
He’s got your caring love Weezer513 . That’s a lot of good . Just waiting for results is torture . Keep his hopes alive and stay positive .., cheers to getting through these treatments with success . 🎄🙏
I am having another Auximin scan next week; last one was back in April. Following up with an 18F PYL PSMA scan in a clinical trial the following week.
PSA has been rising over last 4 months since being undetectable for 1 1/2 years while on Olaparib. Hopefully will help determine future course of treatment.
What scan is being considered?
I don’t know what kind of scans. Regular CT scans I believe
The goal is not to lower PSA, it's to treat the cancer. The PSA is simply a notification about the journey your cancer is on. So reducing PSA really isn't where your attention should be. As your oncologist says, at this point it's not so much the PSA number, it's the direction of increase or decrease that indicates whether the treatment he is on is working or not. Stay forcused on the treatments and live each day to it's full extent.
