Alvin lost the battle with PCa this morning. It has been a long 8 years ... mostly good, but the last 9 months have been a challenge. The metastatic tumor on his spine grew even after surgery and radiation. It finally left him completely paralyzed and in pain. Hindsight being what it is, we should have started hospice a lot sooner. Hoping everyone on the forum has a better result than Alvin did. Thanks, Alvin’s wife.

I am so sorry for your loss. Alvin and I have the same doc at Tulane and he and I had chatted on this site about it about a year ago as I had the same rash from the chemo combo he had. Such a hard road. He sure was lucky to have you. Bless you and Alvin. Dougnola

Gee whiz, so tough to read your note but thank you. Some forget just how brutal this war is and what it does to us towards the end. All I can say is remember the good days.
To the men on this site, read this post as many times as it takes for some of you to get it, that advanced prostate cancer has NO cure, is a horror story in its last stage and there is NO room to screw around with alternative soups mixes in an effort to battle it!!!!!
Also, for those who are hesitant, better to have control over when you want to end the war, and I feel for some who cannot even contemplate ending their lives, because, at some point, there is no point in extending ones existence if there is no quality left.
As I keep screaming out, LIVE LARGE, LOVE THOSE YOU ARE WITH, MAKE UP A BUCKET LIST AND GET TO THE ITEMS THAT YOU CAN .

Sorry to hear about Alvin and his struggle. I developed a spinal metastasis 9 months after chemo --- with no detectable PSA the entire time, which baffled my doctor. Nonetheless, I had no pain/symptoms with the lesion at the base of my spine and was quickly treated with targeted radiation. I hope to have another eight years like Alvin and am so glad he had that extra time with you.
So sad that both of you had to experience the pain of cancer and now the deep sadness of losing your partner. Wish you a gentle journey ahead and with each day a little less grief and little more peace and ease in life.
