I find some weight training gives me energy. I am 73 and my legs are shot . I have been on Lupron for three years . So I pump light weights . My question is what would be a good supplement to my light weight training ? Without advancing my stage four cancer . Thank you for any input .

Estrogen patches may help preserve lean body mass. It may also have anti-cancer properties and reduce hot flashes. Take with tamoxifen to avoid gynecomastia.

Thanks Tall Allen very interesting. I will do some research on that .

T-A, I have done a little reading on tamoxifen in men. a little knowledge etc. Doesn't it increase testosterone? Wouldn't this be counterproductive in Pca.

Not if you are taking Lupron.

After PCa dx, I started using plant-based protein powders from Orgain and Garden of Life from Amazon, and LIVfit from Walmart. I don't drink milk because of the association of the protein casein with PCa progression, but some studies say Whey is protective against PCa.

Ok, I will read up on E2 risks.... I forgot to mention above milk has two main proteins, casein and whey, and from what I've read both may be implicated in PCa progression. Maybe whey not so much, as some studies say it can be protective. But in general, I now steer clear of milk-based proteins, except for yogurt. It's probably what got me in trouble because I was a heavy milk drinker leading up to PCa dx.

α-Casein and total casein did not affect the proliferations of RWPE1, HEK293, A459, SNU484, MCF7, HEK293, or RWPE1 cells. However, PC3 cells treated with 1 mg/mL of α-casein and casein showed increased proliferation (228% and 166%, respectively), and the proliferation of LNCaP cells was also enhanced by 134% and 142%, respectively. The proliferation mechanism of α-casein in PC3 and LNCaP cells did not appear to be related to the induction of Insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1), since the level of IGF-1 did not change upon the supplementation of casein.

CONCLUSIONS:

The milk protein, casein, promotes the proliferation of prostate cancer cells such as PC3 and LNCaP.

ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/252...

Sufficient evidence has accumulated to justify the rejection of the “high dairy calcium –low vitamin D-hypothesis” of PCa[38], whereas the intrinsic signaling capability of milk proteins along with orally bioavailable estrogen metabolites present in milk from pregnant cows represents a more likely explanation for the role of dairy consumption in the development and progression of PCa in Western countries[6, 10, 42]. As mTORC1-mediated cow´s milk signaling shares the same downstream pathways as oncogenic mTORC1 signaling of prostate epithelial cells with growth-promoting genetic aberrations, increased intake of cow´s milk and dairy proteins may exaggerate already increased mTORC1 signaling of PCa cells. Thus, cow´s milk is not a simple nutrient but an endocrinological effector that provides a pro-survival and anti-autophagy tissue environment promoting the initiation and progression of PCa (Figure5). In contrast, plant-based dietary regimens are associated with reduced intake of insulinotropic and IGF-1 elevating amino acids as well as cow´s milk-derived estrogens and in contrast increase the uptake of potential cancer-preventive natural mTORC1 inhibitors.

link.springer.com/article/1...

And finally implicating Whey...

... persistent consumption of cow's milk provides highly insulinotropic branched-chained amino acids (BCAA's) provided by milk's fast hydrolysable whey proteins, which elevate plasma insulin levels and increase hepatic IGF-1 levels by casein derived AA's. BCAA's, insulin, and IGF-1 are pivoting activating signals of mTORC1.

But Whey may be protective...

Researchers say whey protein contains the amino acid cysteine, which is a key ingredient for producing glutathione in the body. By increasing the body's production of glutathione, they suggest that whey protein may aid in prostate cancer prevention, but more research on this is needed in humans rather than test tubes.

Nalakrats, you hit the nail on the head . My main problems are my legs. Like I said my legs are shot . Can’t firgure out why . I had Chemo and radiation two years ago. Been on Lupron last 2-3 years . Recently had Ultrasound to to my legs to determine any blood clots . Everything tested clear . I walk have walked last six months 1/4 mile to a mile every other day . Light weights on off days . I am 73 and when I was in my thirties I ran several marathons . I have told my Onocolgist but she doesn’t have a clue and don’t care . I am at the end of rope at this time . The VA hospital really is no help either . My father walked good until he was 93 !
