NTU Singapore scientists devise 'Trojan horse' approach to kill cancer cells without using drugs

"The researchers created their 'Trojan horse' nanoparticle by coating it with a specific amino acid - L-phenylalanine - that cancer cells rely on, along with other similar amino acids, to survive and grow. L-phenylalanine is known as an 'essential' amino acid as it cannot be made by the body and must be absorbed from food, typically from meat and dairy products.

Studies by other research teams have shown that cancer tumour growth can be slowed or prevented by 'starving' cancer cells of amino acids. "

In the earlier stages of its growth ,cancer cells utilize amino acids as their major food but in later stages they acquire the ability to use carbohydrates particularly Glucose as their main fuel.

As you rightly stated that phenylalanine is an amino acid particularly loved by cancer cells and it is found mostly in meats and animal body parts. This nano particle theory seems promising as it addresses metabolic solution to a metabolic problem.

"starving cancer cells of amino acids"

One of the hallmarks of cancer is the cancer cells' metabolic dysfuntion and need to be constantly "fed" in higher amounts than normal cells. It is interesting that PC, unlike some other cancers, is better described as "fat-addicted" rather than "sugar-addicted" but the needed fatty acids can all be synthesized from amino acids. So cutting fat from the diet is not going to limit available fatty acids, whereas limiting protein might.

Of course, the body can itself create many of these amino acids and many can come from "non-protein" food sources, so simply limiting protein intake probably would never serve to "starve" PC, either. But elimination or targeting of one or two specific amino acids might have potential.

noahware,

Check you private message i posted a video that you may want to see. I am a registered patient with him... I was told to wait til my PSA was 1.5 to see him.

The use of nano particles to clog up arteries leading into tumors has been researched for quite some time, over 7 years afaik, but its a its a difficult thing to get right if there are numerous mets. Its difficult to get right, and not clog up tiny arteries leading into healthy tissue.

This treatment works in theory, but it sure ain't available here in Australia afaik. My doctors have never mentioned it.

Maybe it can work well where there is only one initial tumor that is an easily accessible large blob that has not spread, and finding arteries to pump in nano particles might be easy.

Pca is generally a slow growing cancer and can grow quite well if a man tries to stave himself and not eat much of anything. Some other fast growing cancers like carbohydrates, ie glucose in blood stream, and if we just stop eating food for a month and just drink water and maybe eat vitamin pills, there is always still plenty of glucose and maybe other foods for cancer in blood, as the starving man begins to break down fat and muscles to stay alive.

One can try to stave cancer to death, but maybe you find that you always die first before the cancer.

One might just clamp off the arteries leading into tumors. Its a dangerous thing to do, but I don't know if that works. A surgeon must go in, be guided by CT scan and find the right artery, and put a tiny clamp to stop blood flow. None of this has become mainstream treatment.

Nice spring day here, I cycled 78km and I feel very well indeed. Next Lu177 shot next Friday.

I sometimes feel my cycling kills Pca when I ride. But while I don't ride, Pca grows, so the obvious thing to do is keep cycling 24 hours a day for several weeks until Psa goes to undetectable. Of course that is just impossible, I am but a humble man unable to perform stuff that Superman could easily do.

Because the materials used for such a nanoparticle treatment are "generally recognized as safe" by the FDA, presumably it could be marketed like a supplement without going through clinical trials??

I take 2 amino acids prescribed by my cardiologist to help regulate arrhythmia, L-Arginine and L-Taurine. Do the studies mention which amino acids they were referencing?
