I just found this, a new study from Sweden and Tokyo, which made me a little hopeful.
”An increased awareness on a molecular level of what mechanisms prostate cancer cells use to become mobile and start spreading may in the long run provide new opportunities for treatment of aggressive prostate cancer. This according to a new study by researchers at Umeå University, Sweden, in collaboration with researchers in Uppsala and Tokyo. We can show that one specific amino acid in a signalling molecule plays an important role in mobilising the cancer cells and in that way increase the risk of metastases," says Professor Maréne Landström, Umeå University. This research has studied the growth factor TGF-β, Transforming Growth Factor Beta, which regulates how cells grow and specialise. Previous studies have shown an overproduction of TGF-β in many cancer forms, one being prostate cancer. High levels of TGF-β have proven to be strongly linked with poor prognosis and low survival rates as a consequence of the growth factor stimulating cancer cells to spread in the human body and cause life-threatening secondary tumors -- so-called metastases. TGF-β regulates the expression of the protein Smad7 -- an active component in the TGF-β signalling chain. In healthy cells, Smad7 can prevent continued TGF-β signalling via negative feedback. However, Maréne Landström and her research group and colleagues can now show, contrary to previous belief, that, in cancer cells, Smad7 can reinforce the development of tumors by regulating the gene expression of HDAC6 and c-Jun.”
Well, many of us here are having "The latest and greatest research promising news" fatigue. We're still primarily treated by a 40+ year old discovery of Androgen Deprivation Therapy (ADT).
Don't get me wrong, I'm always excited about Advanced Prostate (PCa) research, it's extraordinary onerous objective. The PCa cells are distinct to each individual, discovering a treatment that works like an "aspirin" for headaches is unlikely - IMHO.
For me, with just ADT2, got my PSA from 1000+ to currently (2 years since Dx) <0.02, others become castrate resistance in just a few months from Dx.
I'm interested in "Prostate Cancer Precision Medicine", but not for last resort cases, instead for all newly PCa diagnosis.
"The belief of precision oncology stems from developing effective therapeutic approaches for individual patients. Identification of new disease pathways and the development of pathway inhibitors have indeed contributed to the decline in PCa mortality in the last decades. Nonetheless, these inhibitors have, over a period of time, led to developing resistance in patients. Henceforth, improvement in developing novel therapeutics is the way forward for treating PCa."
Wow, isn't that the truth -- 40 year old treatment. That is why everyone is looking for some add on or alternative -- most everything in SOC is just another version of ADT and leads to CRPC.
In fact they are just now reconsidering -- and going the opposite direction -- looking at Super high Testosterone as just as good if not better.. at least you don't become CRPC.
Actually Dr. Bob Leibowitz is having extreme success (for over 20 years) with continuous superphysologic Testosterone and nothing else but Avadart (to lower ratio of DHT). This is after a short course of 9 months of low dose chemo w/ ADT then he takes them off of everything and gives them super high testosterone continuously for decades in many cases. These are men who have mets all over in the bones and PSAs in the hundreds -- he raises their T level to 3000 - 4000 and leaves it there. See his video below.
I really like to see one if these potential research findings take off and come up with a treatment...we hear and see a lot and then you hear nothing....$?....I know of a pharmacist in a hospital that attends meetings on prostate drugs and says in 5 to 10 years prostate cancer will be treated like diabetes...praying that's true!!!
Perhaps also related to the role of diet, sleep, sun, exercise, etc. -- involved in the inflammatory milieu generated by things like obesity, insulin resistance and aging itself?

I tend to think that PC, at least in part, is a natural result of inflammaging. I know that I sure hit a lot of "unhealthy" buttons in prior decades!
Me too! I created a bad chemistry inside. Although I had 3 older brothers , and Dad had pc I was the only son to get it. I went gang buster in the freaking fast lane in overdrive. That is until the APC forced me to the shoulder . I’m planning to ride it out on the edge until the wheels fall off! Be well !
