Docetaxel & Jevtana-induced peripheral neuropathy

AerospaceElectrical profile image

Hello everyone. My father is dealing with peripheral neuropathy after having several rounds of docetaxel and jevtana. Hence, I would like to ask what can he take that would significantly improve this adverse effects from the chemotherapy agents?

He is only taking 100 mg of gabapentin a day because it tends to make him tired. Should he increase the dose and/or frequency? Is there anything else that would not lead to fatigue?

The dose of gabapentin could be increased up to 3000 mg a day. He is taking a very low dose and it is not effective to control the paresthesias (burning, tingling, etc). He has to take increasing doses of gabapentin until the drug start controlling the paresthesias,

He should talk with the doctors about increasing the dose. He could also consult with a neurologist and see what he thinks.

This is what I take for peripheral neuropathy:

1. Mirapex 1 tablet 0.25mg - prescription

2. Gabapentin 2 capsules (300mg ea) - prescription

3. Acetyl L-Carnitine 1 capsule 500mg - over the counter

4. Leg Cramps (by Hylands) 2 tablets over the counter

5. Aleve PM 2 220mg - over the counter. Because Aleve can cause liver damage with long term use I have substituted Zyflamend 1 capsule.

I take each of these drugs at least 20 minutes apart in the early evening. This helps me get a good nights sleep. The effects last all day long.

Thanks Magnus. Do you take the 2 capsules of Gabapentin (300mg each) at the same time?

Have you heard of a "drug food' called METANX? It's a specialized version of B12, B6 and folate. metanx.com/
