My oncologist said I can start taking only 1 zytega I the morning but I’m not clear on just what to take it with. I know this was discussed here before and would appreciate your opinion.

It is ok to ask here but you really need to call the MO in the morning and verify. You'll get more answers here but I'd only rely on 1 answer. Are you also taking 5mg of prednisone?

I assume this is to save money? If he's having you take only one 250mg pill, take it with a high-fat breakfast.

If it's not to save money and he wants to lower your dose, take it with no food.

Its low fat not high fat

Nope, low fat was refuted:

Well that is as clear as mud! The doctor said my husband could try the 250 mg with low fat meal.

What is unclear? There are large variations in the absorbed dose with food, but absorption was always better with a high-fat meal. If you want to be certain about the absorbed dose, 1000 mg should be taken while fasting. If the doctor wants you to cut back because of abiraterone toxicity, the lower dose should be taken while fasting. If you need to save money, take it with a high-fat meal. Do not cut back on prednisone because the absorbed dose is the same.

Could I ask why only 1 ? I take 4 a day since dec 15. PSa is 0.7. Would love to reduce my dosage.

in reply todb1966

Ask your onc if you could do 250mg with a meal instead of 1000mg on an empty stomach. Zytiga was approved from studies on an empty stomach but afterwards it was found that if taken with a meal the absorption is 3x or more. But the initial approval wasn't done with that so best to discuss with your doc.

Please report back regarding why your Oncologist reduced daily Zytiga to 250mg from 1000mg. As many here are interested for cost reduction and minimizing doses for health reasons.

Added Zytiga to Lupron in January, 250 mg/day in morning with breakfast. PSA down to 0.065 so last Thursday, I stopped dosing all three, Lupron, Zytiga and Prednison. Going on a vacation baby, lets see how many months I can get out of this.

Btw, Zytiga worked for me while using one pill instead of four

Me too or also. I 250mg at breakfast with food low fat or fat it’s working. My Med ONC told me last Monday “keep doing what your doing”. It’s working... Not changing a thing.

Scheduled for return visit in 3 months. No mention of Lupron injection then. ?

250 mg along with high fat breakfast works as good as as 1000 mg , I used to be only on 250mg with a cup of full fat yogurt.

My husbands Zytiga was reduced from 1000mg to 500mg daily because his liver enzymes became seriously elevated.

I usually have the same doubt. I have read most of the papers about 250 MG dosage, they talk about low-fat and high-fat, but they never say what is the meaning of each one. There is a scientific definition of low-fat and high-fat? How much is low and how much is high?

The reason to go with 250 mg daily was not about money but quality of life to try and alleviate some side effects. After being on Zytiga and lupron since last June when scans showed Mets in my spine, C7 to T 5 my scans last week showed no cancer anywhere! My PSA has been undetectable since last July.

The Dr. said to try the lower dose and get my PSA checked in 2 months.
