I don't take Zytiga so I can't give you any personal experience but, searching the web, I see some very prestigious people and institutions have endorsed the low dose approach, actually going down to 250 mg per day.

The National Cancer Institute, a very conservative group that tries never to give risky advice, has this to say: cancer.gov/news-events/canc... There are caveats and warnings in their statement that the trial they cite is very small, but at least there was a trial and it was monitored by good scientists and doctors.

Medscape, a pretty sophisticated source of medical information, published this: medscape.com/viewarticle/90...

If I were on Zytiga, and if it weren't fully paid for by insurance (and maybe even if it was), I'd be strongly tempted to try the low dose approach.

There is a lot of inter-individual variability in drug absorption with foods. The studies have been small. The absorption seems to increase with the amount of fat in the meal. If you can afford it, the 1000 mg dose without food, or the new formulation (Yonsa) that is equally well absorbed independent of whether there is food. Much cheaper generics are available too.

HI Tall_Allen

ARE THERE CHEAPER GENERICS FOR "ENZALUTAMIDE" ?

ANYBODY KNOW ??

Tall_Allen profile image
Tall_Allen in reply toVictorq1

No there are not. It is still covered by patent protection.

UNFORTUNATELY

NOT

IN BC CANADA

YOU HAVE TO MOVE TO ALBERTA OR PAY FOR IT YOURSELF

Hi Allan and Tall_Allan

Do you or anybody know statistics

how long the Zytiga +Prednisone work ?

Tall_Allen profile image
Tall_Allen in reply toVictorq1

It depends on the situation - longest for newly diagnosed mHSPC, shortest for mCRPC after multiple treatments.

Victorq1 in reply toTall_Allen

Thanks Tall_Allen.

I understand once Zytiga stops working next option migt be Enzalutamide

or Docetaxel or both.

Anybody from Alberta Canada could confirm that

since that province supports this treatment.

In BC they give you Zytiga

or

Enzalutamide but not both.

That’s 4 tablets

I went from 4x 250mg per day to 1x with yogurt. After 4 months BP went up to 165/98 during radiation, so I dropped it for 6weeks, remaining on Lupron, and BP dropped back to 108/70. Don’t thing the change in Zytiga dosage had anything to do with the increase in BP, probably even helped avoid worse BP. Will talk with MO about whether to continue Z. PSA is at 0.03, so if it holds, may not start it again.

My husband is being treated at a teaching hospital in Chicago. His MO put him on 250mg once a day with low-fat meal. His Psa is declining on it. (Dx stage 4 July 2017)

I take one Zitiga tablet a day with a low fat meal and it appears to be working. I have been through a lot living with metastasized prostate cancer over the last 9 years. Xtandi/Lupron stopped working October 2018. I was told by a number of doctors that there was a very low chance of Zitiga being effective. My PSA climbed to 165 this past June. It's been has high as 498. Long story short, I met an oncologist who told me that studies (?) have shown that taking one Zitiga tablet a day with a low fat meal is more effective than 4 tablets a day. My PSA is now 10. Also, I started Lupron in May of 2018, monthly shots, with my last shot in July. My testosterone just (last week) went from undetectable to 22. I take holidays as "quality of life" is my priority. I met with the same oncologist yesterday and he told me that some men in my condition can let their testosterone come back with little to no affect on prostate cancer. Well, I guess I'll find out. FYI, I am considering Radium 223, I'm very active, still working and look forward to many more great years.
